The "You cant win" group has become self maintaining entity. The reason I started this website back, oh some 7+ years ago, was because I was sick and tired of hearing the same answers over and over, day after day. I started collecting the Q&A, and putting them in the 'Net in hopes that even a couple people would bother to read them, and try to use what was collected. Ever since Michael Coyle graciously stepped up and started the YCW discussion group, the need for me to maintain this site dropped. With 154 members in the discussion group, you all are doing more for sharing info with each other than I ever did. As for keeping a history of the Q&A, that too is no longer needed, as the offical Lazer103 website has all of that info available. What used to be a labor of love, a passion I wanted to share with other listeners of the B&B show, no longer is needed. And quite frankly, I have neither the time nor the ambition anymore to do it - thats obvious from the absolutely crappy job I've been doing in keeping the site up to date. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a chance to listen to the YCW segment of the B&B show... 1 month atleast, though I would guess it's closer to 2. The only reason I had the info to update the site at all today was from the YCW discussion groups emails. Expect to see even less frequent updates here.. if there is ever another one. Quite likely I'll be pulling down the YCW info that is here, as I could use the little disc space that Roadrunner gives me for other things. Thanks for all you've said and done, all the emails and help you've passed my way thru the years. And thanks to Bob & Brian for giving us You (still) Can't Win. Who knows, maybe one day I'll even actually get on the air as a contestant, though I've long since given up hope of ever winning a contest.. (grin) |

Took a business trip to San Diego Apr 25-29th. Seems like I've been getting out there 1-2 times a year the last few years. I'm beginning to grow quiet fond of Southern California.. think I could relocate out there and not have a problem with it. Oh sure, I'd miss my friends & extended family, and of course the B&B show, but I could deal with living there again. Ya ya.. mud slides, raging fires, the "big quake" thats going to drop CA into the ocean.. atleast they don't have ass freezing winters. Got the first camping trip of the year planned, looks like its just me, doug & huckleberry - still going to be a good time. Couple cases of beer, big ol raging campfire, and about 20 games of Risk 2210. Hope the weather is decent - I can deal with the cold, build a fire and it's all good. Just hope it's not raining, you know? Other than that, nothing else new going on.. figured I'd get the website update in before Mike started sending me nasty gram's again. |

Now LEAVE ME ALONE! *grin* .. just kididng. Just got done reading "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. Pretty damn interesting book, it makes you wonder about the origins of religion today. Of course, there are a number of websites that try to debunk the story, but that's to be expected from religious sites. It has made me start doing some research into the whole thing. It turns out that Spain's new soft-on-terror socialist leader, the Arab propagandists of Al Jazeera and the cowardly French aren't the only dubious foreign supporters of John Kerry's presidential campaign. Mahathir Mohamad, who as Malaysia's soft-on-terrorism prime minister last year urged fellow Muslim leaders to achieve a "final victory" over the Jews who "rule the world by proxy," today endorsed Kerry's effort to defeat President Bush. |

More computer problems... Between my son's hacked computer (see the rant I never posted for last week), and then having the motherboard on my main computer dying (and the subsequent search for a replacement). After checking numerous places for a PIII, socket 370, 815 chipset board, I finally bought one off of EBay. Got that being shipped now, hopefully I'll get it before this next weekend. But wait, that just can't be enough to drive a grown man crazy.. now it's time for my laptop to start acting up! Yup, the fan is squeeling like you wouldn't believe.. sounds like a shopping cart with a couple bad wheels. Gotta love it. 4 friggin computers in my life and 3 are causing me problems. The only one thats chugging along just fine? You got it - the PII 233mhz, 64 mb RAM, 4 gig hard drive, antiquated piece of shit my daughter has to use. Anyone listen to Charlie Sykes this morning, and the letter he read about John Kerry's campaign using telemarketers from Ontario Canada? Nice - gotta love the hypocrisy on that one. Between that little incident and the fact he's touting about his military service as being this great thing.. ya right, anyone ever check into his military background? His protesting with a bunch of other veterans (who weren't Vets, they were actors), throwing his medals (which really weren't his, they were borrowed) on the Whitehouse lawn, about his testamony of the atrocities that occurred (and were proven to be lies by him). What a piece of work that guy is.. the only reason he's a viable condidate is that he married into a fortune. |

And once again, I'm back to having computer woes.. So, my network has been acting really bad lately.. been getting LD's when I never get them, and the bandwidth has been draggin. Yesterday morning, it pretty much just shut down and I had no internet at home. So, last night I started seriously looking at my network and what was going on. Started shutting down computers (have 4 of them at home) and once I shut down my sons, everything worked fine.. big red flag. Ok, reboot the computer and watch the startup.. log into windows, and a small window pops up briefly - I can only see the caption but it reads "ROFL - idiot". Hmm.. big red flag 2. Run Task manager, it starts up and closes right away. Try running RegEdit - same thing. The red flags are piling up by now. Reboot the system and try to log into my admin account.. the account has been disabled. Try loggin into the default admin account, password not valid. I roll up my sleeves to get serious about this. A few steps later, I hack the admin password and have Admin priv's back. Start up in safe mode and reactivate my account, change all of the passwords. Since I'm in safe mode, none of the crap that was running under normal accounts is loaded, so I can really dig into it. Spybot Search & Destroy.. clean up some stuff. Ad-Aware .. clean a bit more. Check out Norton Antivirus... hey wait a minute, the virus def's haven't updated since November. Hmm.. try to force the update, it doesn't work. Remove & reinstall NAV, and run it.. well look at that, 16 backdoor virus's installed. Start digging through the system, seems that someone backdoored the computer, and was using it as an IRC host for their chats, as well as using it to Bot and try to hack other peoples computers. Also found out that there was about 2 gigs worth of Warez stored on his computer in a hidden folder. Now, I know enough about security that at this point I should just FDisk the whole thing and reinstall windows from a clean system. But, where is the fun in that? So, I set about trying to scrub the system manually and remove all of the virus's, spyware, FTP's, IRC's, and everything else these friggin punks put on his system. I spent about 6 hrs cleaning the system. Burned all of the crap to CD's before I delete it, just incase the FBI shows up on our doorstep one day for hosting a Warez site. The logs have a bunch of IRC Nicnames and IP addresses, so hopefully that would help prove my case. So - a couple final warnings to everyone. 1. If you don't have an AntiVirus program on your computer, DO IT NOW. If you do have one, be sure you activate (ie. Pay for) the live update feature. 2. If you don't update your Windows OS regularly, DO IT NOW. Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and step through the update. It's pretty self explanitory, but if you need help - just ask. 3. Even if you have both of these done, you're not 100% safe from virus's. It still takes some smarts to protect yourself. Never run anything you get in email that looks suspicious. - If you get an email from a friend with an attachment that you weren't expecting, before you run it contact them and ask them if they really sent it, and what it is. Some virus's take control of your email program and forwards the virus on to everyone in your contact list. - If you get an email from someone and you don't recognise who its from, it might just be a spam email, but it could also be a virus. Do yourself a favor, if the email doesn't seem right, just delete it without opening it up. Better safe than sorry. - Companies like Microsoft, Norton Antivirus, etc. will NEVER sent you an email with an attachment to run. They will always refer you to a link to download it. - Be cautious of HTML links to sites. I can post a link here like ( www.microsoft.com) that says it's going to Microsoft, but actually takes you to another page. Don't just look at what the link says it is, look at what your Web Brower shows it to be (down there on the status bar at the bottom of your browser window). - NEVER run a program you get off the internet unless you really trust the site you get it from. Most real companies are just fine, but if you download a "cool utility" from some john doe's personal website, your taking a risk. - If your computer starts acting wierd, or is noticebly slower, or you start seeing strange popup windows, there is a reason for it. Time to figure out the problem yourself, or if you don't feel comfortable doing it, seek help. |

Bah friggin humbug. Packer football has ended for the year. Eagles didn't win the game, McNabb did.. he was soley responsible for putting the eagles in position to win - 104 rushing yards. Kudo's to McNabb.. enough said. I'm so pissed, I can't even rant. The Pack had that game won and they blew it.. no excuse for it, they flat out gave up the game. Maybe more later, if I can get the motivation to do it. |

Brett is now to be referred to only as "The Legend".. Yup, thats right.. Brett Favre is just "the Legend".. damn we live in great football times. You realize that in the 12 years Brett has been with the Packers, we've been to the playoffs 9 times? The number of times we've had a loosing season with him at the helm? Yup - 0. The worst season we had was during the Ray Rhodes "Dynasty" with an 8-8. And the best part about the Farve era, during the same 12 year span the number of times we didn't make the playoff's is the same as the number of winning seasons the Bears have had.. lol.. I keep trying to impress on my son how special this is, that he's watching a legend play each week. Hell, the last time my son watched a Packer game where Brett wasn't the QB, my son was only 2 years old.. that just seems so crazy. So, how's everyone feel about the Packers chances at beating the Eagles? Personally, I'm feeling pretty good. I was at the Packers - Eagles game in Greenbay, and really think if it hadn't been for Aman's fumbles and Brett's thumb brace screwing up his passing, we would of won that game. I know that the home advantage and 2 week rest play into Eagles favor, but the way the Pack has been playing the last few weeks, I think they can do it. They need to come out hard and fast, and wrack up a few points to shut down the Eagles fans and we should be ok. I don't know how good their chances are of making it to the Superbowl though, or winning it if they do. The Patriots have been some awsome football lately, if they aren't the Superbowl champs this year I'll be very surprised. Well, hope everyone had a safe, happy holiday season. I had 2 weeks off, and let me tell ya - coming back to work yesterday really sucked ass. I had 800+ emails to go through, the majority of them being junk email (yay). I'm ready for a vacation to rest up from my vacation. The cool thing was that I got a bunch done around the house, repainted 3 bedrooms.. just gotta do the hallway this week and we'll be set. Still need to finish the rec room though, but that's gotta wait till I build up some cash in the slush fund. |

To quote our patron saint Brian Nelson... GET OFF MY ASS Lol .. well, it was kinda funny having B&B punk me, but damn .. look, I've been working out and am back down to wearing 33 waist jeans, hope to be in 32's for the spring. Between work, the kids, and now B&B - My ass just isn't that big.. someone, PLEASE, get off ! And that is NOT to be confused with me asking someone to get off *ON* my ass.. 'cause that ain't happening. *grin* And oh wait a minute.. what is that I see?? Did anyone else happen to look at the *OFFICIAL* website? Oh no - THEY haven't updated their site either. haha.. oh ya, anyone want to bet they won't rip the people they pay money to for updating the website? Look guys, I'm cool with ya doggin me - you were right, I was lax in my maintenance of the site. But hey - one of these days could ya please maybe mention the URL to it or something? We only have 135ish people on the YCW Yahoo mailing list , and I only average 1,000 new visitors per month - we could use some fresh meat for the throbbing brain. This is a labor of love for me. As you guys know full well, I have never made a single cent from you or any of your advertisers, even though I post links to their sites here. Years back you pulled down the "props" you gave me on your website. All I ask is that maybe once a year or so, you actually mention the URL to the website on air. Mentioning my name would be seriously cool - but I expect that would be asking too much. Hey, speaking of getting your shit together and doing something, anyone else notice how weak the prize package is for this latest contest? Scrolling back through the 7 years of records that *I'VE* been keeping, it's the worst prize package to date. Hey, I got an idea guys.. put a set of the B&B cd's into the prize package if you can't leverage your popularity into some additional items for the package. One last thing - I've uploaded a few pic's from for those interested. Three Sisters - I think they were called. The pine tree in the front is maybe 2 1/2 to 3 ft in Diameter. Yosemite Valley - This is a pic overlooking Yosemite valley. Hole thru a Sequoia - I forget what they named this one, but it's the smaller version of the sequoia that they cut a hole through years ago, and then it fell over. It doesn't look that big, but when I stood inside of it and extended my arms to both sides, and then overhead, I could barely touch the side. And even with that huge hole in it, its still living. |

Well, I'm back and at it again.. I think Been a busy month or so, and I've been VERY lax in my duties as webmaster - but I should be back on track now. Between being off deer hunting for 5 days, and then a 4 day Thanksgiving weekend in which I was *extremely* lazy, I didn't do a damn thing on the website. Ya ya, I'm a bum, you all hate me, why do I have the site if I don't maintain it.. blah blah.. yawn. Look, after 7 years you all know I get lazy sometimes.. it can't come as a suprise to you. So whats new, whats the story? Not jack shit. I had a great time out in San Jose, CA last month. Yosemite National park kicks ass. I was there a perfect time of the year, the tourist business was pretty slow so I didn't have to fight the crowds much at all. Camped out Fri & Sat night at Camp #4, that was pretty cool. Woke up on Sat at 6am to 30 degree weather and a dusting of snow on my tent - and headed out to Mariposa grove - the largest Sequoia grove in Yosemite. Walked around the grove for about 2 hrs all by myself, not another person to be seen. Finally bumped into someone when I was heading out and they were coming in. Sunday morning I woke up early and followed a trail up the cliff face. Stood and watched a 8pt mule deer for a bit, then I continued my climb. 1200 ft up and 3.5 miles of trails later, I sat down and watched the sun come up over the mountains. And again, I had the trails to myself. Talk about peacefull ... damn, it was great. I *WILL* go back there one of these years and spend a week or so walking the High Sierra trails and sleeping at the camps. Oh well, back to the grind.. later all |

On the 10th of November in 1775 at Tun Tavern, the Continental Congress passed a resolution which said in part: "...Resolved, that two battalions of Marines be raised, consisting of one colonel, two lieutenant colonels, two majors, and other officers as usual in other regiments; and that they consist of an equal number of privates with other battalions; that particular care be taken, that no persons be appointed to office, or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve to advantage by sea when required; that they be enlisted and commissioned to serve for and during the present war between Great Britain and the Colonies, unless dismissed by order of Congress; that they be distinguished by the names of the first and second battalions of American Marines..." And thus the United States Marine Corps was born. Semper Fi my brothers, Semper Fi. And to all members of our military, both past and present - Happy Veteran's day. |

Great, just great.. The weather in Yosemite National Park has been 75-85 during the day for the last 6-7 weeks, but of course the week *I* fly out there it's supposed to drop down to the 50's. Oh well, I'm still packing my camping gear and heading up there. Anyone else have Digital Cable service from Time Warner? Damn it sucks.. seriously. We've had really crap reception on it since we switched to Digital service. I've got a service call scheduled for tomorrow, they'd better be able to do something to improve the service or I'm switching back to using Direct TV. I suppose it goes without saying, expect no updates Fri 31st - Fri 5th while I'm out of town. Possibly I'll do an update if I can get some internet access while I'm at the conference, as long as the news group keeps posting the Q&A for the week. |

Work is taking me out to San Jose, CA at the end of the month. After checking out the map on where the heck San Jose is, I did some checking around and figured out that Yosemite National Park is only about 3 hrs away. So, since I need to be in San Jose for a conference Sun - Wed, I might as well take off on a red eye flight Friday morning, rent a car and spend a couple nights camping up at Yosemite. Now, since making that decision it seems that all I've heard on the radio is animal attacks.. first Roy Horn gets mauled by a tiger, then the guy in New York got bit, now there's a report of couple in Alaska who got killed by a bear. Now this wouldn't bother me except for the info at Yosemite website has lines that read "Be prepared to actively defend your food and repeatedly scare bears out of your camp through the night."... Seriously, WTF? I'm a good sport but beating off a bear in the middle of the night, when I'm camping by myself in the middle of nowhere... Shesh! Not that I'm going to let that stop me from checking out one of the countries greatest parks... just might end up eating a bit less food than normal if yoggie decides to eat my meal. I'll be damned if I'm going to fight a 500 lb black bear for some food. The last thing I want to be is a lead story for B&B - I can hear Carrie's voice now.. Bear attacks local man. Town of Genesse resident Rich Werning, known for his "Unoffical You Can't Win" website, was mauled to death in Yosemite National Park while trying fight off the bear with a stick, after the bear had stole a Freeze Dried Icecream bar from his food bag. |

During a recent email debate between a friend from India and myself, he sent me the following. I want to make you an American who is universally loved by every one including OBL and SH :-) Now, there was no way to let that go without response, and my reply was one of my better writings of late, so I thought I'd share it up as my rant. Ok, you're right.. what I'm saying is that I was too lazy to come up with a new rant so I just used the same one twice. Deal with it. *grin* The only way that would happen is if the entire country renounced christianity, helped to murder every Israely & Jew in the world, banned all sexual TV, movies and music, and gave them all of our wealth to be divied up between then. And even if we did all of that, they would still find a reason to hate us. The fact is, many countries hate us for reasons I can't understand, and won't bother trying. As the world superpower, some people will hate us with what comes down to the class envy that many poor people feel for the rich. We allow hundreds of thousands of non-US citizens to come here to work and enjoy the opporunties we offer. Many of them become US citizens because they find that it really is the land of opporunity. We share hundreds of billions of our US taxpayer dollars with other countries, even some of them where the people hate us. We have charitable orginizations that go to underprivilged countries and share medical experience & education with them. Since that isn't enough to make people like us, or atleast tolerate us.. the best we can do is to use our power to make sure they don't actively try to kill us or countries that have the nerve to be on friendly terms with us. |

Freakin dumb ass wisconsin weather.. What in the HELL were my forefathers thinking when they got to WI and stopped? During the last 140 years, not *one* of that chain could of packed up and moved someplace warmer?!?! Jesus, if 1 - just 1 - of my (great) grandfathers would of had the common sense to move someplace warm, I'd be living in Texas, or California, or Arizona.. someplace with a realistic climate. Gotta share with you all the latest on "People who follow YCW that can't hear it anymore". Through the years I've gotten emails from people around the country who used to live here and listen to the B&B show, but have since moved away. Last month there was Doug in Portland Oregon, been some from CA, and I know there's a few ppl in the Military who check the site. But, if we're looking for the furthest distance from Milwaukee, I'm pretty sure that Brian out in Tianjin China wins it by a mile (or 3). Seems like a long way to go for a teaching job, I mean.. I know we're trying to cut down on the education spending budget, but surely there has to be someplace a bit closer. *grin*.. Anyone ever check out MAME video games? Think it's about time to start work on making my own MAME arcade game cabinet for the rec room. And speaking of video games, for all of you GoldenTee freaks - have you read the thread 'The Word' on the Underdog sports forum? Long, but pretty damn good.. |

Well, it wasn't really camping. Ended up getting rooms in the Dells and spent the weekend in a hotel. Had a good time even though it rained the entire weekend. Kelly got some crab legs and prons sent in from Seattle, so we had that Friday. Saturday we went out to some italian resturant and ate way too much food. Pretty much redefines camping for us.. laze around in a suite with a hot tub and kitchen, eat gormet foods... ya, that doesn't really count as a camping trip. Friggin football. I'm in a survivor league and made it past the first week where 70% of the people dropped by picking Miami. I picked Tampa this week, so I'm out of it because Tampa ended up loosing from a blocked fieldgoal. A friggin blocked fieldgoal... how often do you see that? Jesus, that sucked - and it's a $340 prize to the winner. And speaking of football, Mike Holgrem pisses me off. One of my starting receivers is Koren Robinson. Seems that Holgrem was pissed at him because he was late for a practice on Saturday, so he was benched for the game on Sunday during Seattles 38-0 asswhooping of Arizona. I'm barely ahead of my opponent, who has 1 player left for tonight. Everyone do me a favor and root for the Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey to have a terrible game tonight. |

Quick update.. seems that Bob & Brian are giving the syndication idea another shot . This time they're going after the Madison market, WTLX-FM (100.5) will start airing their show on Aug. 25. I just hope they don't change the format to cater to the bleeding heart liberals that dwell in every nook and cranny of Madison . Ok - while I'm on the topic (so much for a quick update, hey?) ... check out the link to Democratic Underground . What we have here is the motherload of information for your drone like democrates. If you can't think for yourself, or come up with your own reasonable debates on why we should cripple the economy with overwhelming taxes, instead of putting the brakes on runaway property taxes in Wisconsin, well then swing on by the DUHH ( Democratic Underground Hivemind Headquarters) and they'll tell you EXACTLY what you should think about everything on the left. The biggest friggin joke of the site is the link to "Enter Fair And Balanced Discussion Board". Try posting something Conservative on that forum once and see how quickly people start calling you a lurker, swearing at you, and then having the Admin ban you from the site. As a matter of fact, their rules even state "We ban conservative disruptors who are opposed to the broad goals of this website. If you think overall that George W. Bush is doing a swell job, or if you wish to see Republicans win, or if you are generally supportive of conservative ideals, please do not register to post, as you will likely be banned.". But, in liberal terms this is considered "Fair and Balanced"... lol.. what a bunch of putz's. Oh, and by the way - I don't want anyone giving me crap anymore about how I'm not up to date on the website. Check out the prize package on the "Official" You Can't Win site . If they can't keep their own prize package up to date when they have the info right in front of them, well then - I don't feel so bad if I don't keep my site 100% uptodate. Holy crap, that makes 2 rants in 1 week... Hey, that deserves a beer! Hope they don't call off the Paker game tonight due to that power outage in Cleveland. Gotta find me a bar to go to and watch the game... I'm a bachelor this weekend as the wife and kids left me for (oddly enough) a family reunion in Cleveland. How do you like the format, is it easier to find the Q&A this way? Anyone else getting sick and friggin tired of that radio commercial from the dem's with their pack of lies about the property tax freeze? Hope they get enough votes to override our "great" Governer, Bobble Head Jim Doyle's veto of the freeze. "Oh no - if the EVIL Republicans freeze goes into effect, cities will go bankrupt, schools will close and all police will be out of a job"... ya right, what ever. How come 45 other states in the good ole USA can make do with cheaper taxes than we can in Wisconsin? Clue train for ya Gov, figure out how to waste less money and we can lower taxes without hurting anyone. Maybe cutting out some of those bullshit wastefull social programs that are out there... that'd be a good place to start. And then those gaming compacts you screwed us with... you could of EASILY gotten them to pay twice that much. There is no way that 1 person should of been able to make those deals - what a screw job you did on us there. Hmm.. ok, that almost qualifies for a rant, so now I don't feel as bad. Later all. - RJ |

What can I say.. Life is good. Outside of the fact that my daughter is taking her drivers test today (look out everyone, another crazy teenage female driver is on the road) things are going good. I'm off all next week, out of town for our yearly "Guys camping" trip. Heading up to Pattison State park this year - supposed to be pretty nice. They have some great fishing up there, and their claim to fame is that the park has the largest waterfall in the state of Wisconsin - some 165 feet. Hopefully all this damn rain will stop by then ... is it just me or does it seem to be an abnormally wet July? Where are all of the "Global Warming" people right now? I've started to compile info about our Camping Trips. Eventually I hope to detail out the trip better, add reviews of the campground and try to scan in the campground map. |

Lets see, 2 weddings and 1 belated wedding reception party, 5 birthdays (including yours truely turning the big 40), heading to Pennsilvania for a Hummer event with my bro-in-law.. what else.. hopefully I'll finally finish my 3 year project of converting my basement into a rec room. Once I finish that I'm going to get a tech to come in and work on my video games. I have a Mrs. Pacman, Galaga and Super Mario Bros - and of the 3 only Galaga works, though the sound for it doesn't. If you know anyone in the video game repair business, drop me an email if you would. Damn, my lawn is driving me nuts.. I'm not sure whats worse, the weeds or the gophers. Been actively trying to get both under control, but it's a lawn drawn out war. The neighbors on one side of me barely take care of their lawn, and the lot next to me is still a vacant field of overgrown weeds - so every time I get things under control their weeds start to creep into my yard. Well hell, thats about it for this rank.. the sun is shinning on occasion, the weather has been hitting the 70's.. guess there's not much for me to bitch about. Weeds and gophers.. guess things could be worse, hey? |

Whats new.. Hmm... where to start. Lets see, started April with a 4 day trip to Las Vegas with some friends who were getting married. We all stayed at Caesar's Palace (thats me in the middle), damn that was a good time. We had dinner one night at the 808 Restaurant inside Caesar's - what an amazing meal. The Opakapaka (pink snapper) was out of this world. Outside of the usual nightlife and partying, on Friday morning we were treated to watching Jim Belushi and Courtney Thorne-Smith (click names for pics) tape an upcoming episode of According to Jim . From what they said the episode aires some time this month, so if you watch it and there is a scene with Jim at a blackjack table - I was right there watching it be filmed - big deal right? Oh, and if you remember the woman from "American Pie" who played Stifflers Mother - she's in the scene too as a cocktail waitress.. Went down to Nasville last week for the yearly users conference we do for our customers. A coworker and I drove down on Saturday with a van full of equipment, opening session was on Sunday, then Mon - Wed was the conference. About 4pm Wed we hopped in the van and started the 9 hr drive back. Remember that bitch of a rain storm you all got Wednesday night? We bumped into it around Indianapolis, and drove through a torrential downpour the last 4 hours of the drive. Man that was an ass kicker.. amazing how exhausting driving in the rain can be. The conference itself went pretty good - from the customers remarks they seemed to enjoy it. Finally got to meet one of the guys from England that I've known for years. Around the office Martin is legendary for his drinking ability - now I know why. Damn that man can pound the booze.. He turned me on to a new (for me) drink, buy 2 tumblers of Vodka and a can of Red Bull. Add the Red Bull to the vodka as you drink it down. Bascially you end up drunk off your ass, but your wide awake. *grin* Gonna be another busy summer for me. Two trips already gone by, June I'm headed to Pennsylvania for a Hummer event with my bro-in-law, July I'm gone for a 5 days on our yearly guys camping trip, August is a trip to Cleveland.. plus we still need to schedule a couple other camping trips. I really do hate Wisconsin winters, so I try to get the most out of the few decent months of weather we have - hope you all do the same. Anyway, here's your update Mike.. hope this buys me a couple weeks before you ride me about being a lazy ass again.. haha.. Seriously though, thanks to the regulars for keeping me going. |

"Dude, what the hell? Did you die or something?" That's the basic theme of the emails I've received lately, and because I'm writing this it should be obvious that the answer is "no". In a nutshell, I've been so friggin busy lately that YCW has slipped off my radar. I don't know the last time I got to listen to YCW.. 5 - maybe 6 weeks, seriously. I have no clue what is going on.. I know from the emails (or lack there of) in the YCW group that they're still stalled on the same dumb ass question, but thats about it. One of the other key guys at work took another job and a bunch of his responsiblities fell into my lap - adding to the already "More than I can get done in a day" workload. Ya ya, I know you don't care about my busy work schedule - can't say I blame you, I really don't care how busy you are either. Anyone else suffering from CNN burnout? I normally work at home in the evenings from 9 till 1am or so, and CNN has been on most of the time since the war started. Friggin reporters have been driving me nuts, glad to hear Rumsfeld put them in their place this morning. "The people saying the war plan isn't working haven't seen the plan" - great quote there. I may be just a dumb ass computer programmer, who happens to be an ex-Marine, but how is it I've seen through the stupid questions that the reporters have been asking the last 10 days? A mad dash across Iraq to establish a presence everywhere, securing multiple runways and most of the oil fields, now they maintain their position while reinforcing their troups, getting the supply lines going, and continuing the bombing missions to weaken the Iraqi troups. If they would of done it like they did in 1991, there would be hundreds of oil wells burning, and the Iraqi troups would be dug in even harder in the various towns. 10 days and there are coalition forces across the country... and the battle plan is failing how? What we have is a bunch of no nothing talking heads that need to fill up 24 hr a day airtime with war information, and they'll say anything to fill that airtime. And how about those anti-war / peace protests that keep errupting into violence and ending in people being arrested... anyone else see the irony in that? Some guy put it perfect on Saturday when he was talking about the "Support the troups" rally they were doing in San Francisco. Basicallly he said "The anti-war people have been making death threats to me if we don't call off the protest. They're all for 1st ammendment and freedom as speach as long as it's their side talking, they don't want anyone else to have the same freedom of speach". Nothing angers me more than to hear some piece of shit full time professional protester claim the 1st ammendment, then in the same breath say they hope that we get our asses kicked in Iraq and lots of soldiers die. The freedoms we have in this country were bought and paid for in blood and tears over the last 200+ years by our military. And then some chicken shit miserable fuck uses those rights to spew such shit out of their mouths. "Bush isn't our president".. fuck you, scum ball - why don't you move to France, I'm sure you and Jacques Chirac will get along just fine. For all I care Peter Arnet can stay in Bagdad and get a job working for Al-Jazira .. what a traitorous piece of shit that guy is. "Wait!" They cry, "it's not right we do a unilateral action without UN approval." Ya right.. piss off. 1993 Clinton put Sudan on list of sponsors of terrorism and started unilateral sanctions against them. 1998 he issues unilateral strikes against Bagdad. Lets go back to the Cuban Missle crisis, our blockade wasn't Ok'd by the UN, that was unilateral - our sanctions against them that are still in place aren't UN approved. How about Bosnia and Kosovo? Yup, you guessed it - they didnt' have UN support either. "This war is about Oil" they cry. Well, yes - there is some of that. But what they won't say is that France, Germany and Russia have very lucrative and exclusive deals for extracting and selling the oil in Iraq. Thats the reason why they were steadfast in saying that they wouldn't approve any military action there, they don't want Saddam to loose power as the rights will likely be sold to the highest bidder, thus making those 3 loose their exclusive rights. And lets not forget the more than $8 Billion that Saddam owes Russia for military equipment, money that likely will not be repaid by the new government. To all the men & women serving our country - my deepest thanks and gratitude. Stay safe, stay strong, finish your job and come home soon. Semper Fi. |

I read an interesting article the other day at Investor's Insight, written by Gary Halbert . For once someone actually put figures on who pays what percent, and what income brackets are considered "rich" and "super rich". Damn, I never knew I ran wish such a classy crowd.. everyone around me is either rich or super rich. Anyone want to jet off to Paris for lunch? The following all comes from G. Halbert's article, some of the facts I found most interesting follow below.
If you make $28,000 a year, do you consider yourself rich? What if you make $55,000 a year, are you rich? Okay then, what if you make $92,000 a year, are you rich? I doubt that many in any of these income brackets consider themselves rich, especially if they have kids.
The liberals NEVER quote these figures either. They know that most people making $28,000-$55,000 do NOT consider themselves remotely to be rich, nor do many who make $92,000. These folks would be appalled if the liberals were to call them rich people, so they don't. |

Not much to rant on this week. Had a busy friggin weekend, was actually looking forward to getting back to work so I could rest up from the weekend. Well, that and the fact that next weekend I'm taking off to go camping. Yes - you read that right, we're going camping in the winter. Looks like it should be great camping weather - mid 20's and snowing. Ya ya - don't ask me why, my camping bud's came up with the idea and I was stupid (or drunk) enough to agree to it. Now no one has the guts (or common sense) to admit it was a crazy idea... it should be interesting though. Heading to Vegas in April for a friends wedding.. actually, that description isn't completely accurate. My friend (he) and my other friend (she) are getting married, so it's cool that they're getting hitched. Gonna do it the cost effective way, elope to Vegas and tie the knot and invite a small crew of people to join them. My wife can't make it, so I'm gonna end up in Vegas stag.. usually I have my wife to pull me out of the Casino while I'm ahead or before I get too far behind. She posesses FAR more common sense than I (hence the reason she's not going camping in January) - so this could either be a huge win or a painfully expensive "fun jet" Vegas trip. Oh - and my appologies to Mike for screwing up his shot at the prize. I had the answer to #3 wrong - it's Wilmer F. Zeller, not William S. Zeller. I knew it last week (thanks to those who sent in the correct answer) but wasn't able to log into the site - that's been taken care of, but it came a little to late. |

I was out of work Wednesday so I missed the answer to #2. Who was that idiot on the phone today? I wish they would come up with some sort of moron screening process... damn thats annoying. I'll catch it up once I hear a correct response to it. Already got a lead on the answer to #3, thanks to Phil over on the YCW Discussion group , nice work! Mayor Wilmer F. Zeller , 55 year old mayor of Glasow, Montana, population 3253. My daughter got her temp drivers license Tuesday.. damn, talk about making a guy feel old. I'm not mentally prepared for all this stuff... before long she'll be off to college, out on her own.. my son will be driving by then. That old saying about how "kids grow up way too fast" is true.. atleast from my standpoint. On the positive side of it - my kids will be 18+ and out of the house and I'll only be 45, my wife 41 - so we'll be all set for enjoying being free again at an age when we can still enjoy it! Unlike some of my co-workers who are still having kids in their late 30's and early 40's... 41 and a dad for the first time - thats crazy. |

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, yada yada yada... 2003 - shesh, where the hell is time going? Seems like we were just worrying about the whole Y2K issue and now it's 3 years in the past.. Hope everyone had a good holiday season, got the stuff you wanted, did the things you wanted, maybe got some rest. 12 days off for me and about all I accomplished was that I ate way too much on Christmas and drank way too much on New Years. No idea where the heck the time went, though atleast a few hours were spent playing Grand Theft Auto III on PS2 - damn thats a crazy game.. Did the whole powerball lottery here at work, back when it was $280 Million... $91 bucks worth of tickets and we got $6 back. Sitting here with a total of 42 tickets from the 3 different office attempts at winning the lottery, so I guess I'll send them in to that 2nd chance thing, see if I can get on the Money Game show. 142 emails.. shesh, what the hell is that all about? Guess that's what I get for not checking my email for 2 weeks. Bet you that more than 1/2 of it is junk email, just what I wanted to deal with today - 70 emails about "hot hot hot babes for me" and "super fast low interest loans". |

About time someone answered that damn question. I was getting sick of hearing the same old answers to the same dumb question... "They've all been to Mader's German Restaurant in Milwaukee.", should of figured it'd be some kind of answer like that. Oh well, off to a new line of questions. Never did fill in what the final result was with my Dakota. Took the insurance company from friday morning (hit the deer Thursday night) until Tuesday to get to the body shop and do their estimate. Hillside Autobody started on it then, but since that Thursday was Thanksgiving, and they had to order the parts, the truck wasn't ready to go until the following Tuesday. Now, keep in mind that I (stupidly) didn't have rental vehicle coverage on my truck - so I was paying the $30 per day for a rental car (2002 Grand Prix, pretty sweet ride I might add) out of my own pocket. From Tuesday till the FOLLOWING MONDAY my truck was sitting at Firestone waiting on some stupid ass hose that was on national back order or some such story. I finally told them to do anything to get the truck back to me, use an after market hose, make one, hell pick it up from B&M auto salvage for all I cared, I just wanted my damn truck back. Spent an extra $200 on car rental waiting on a stupid hose.. shesh. Anyway, Paul and the gang at Hillside did a great job, and I'm back to driving my truck. Don't expect any updates till after the New Year, I'm off from the 21st-2nd, and I usually don't listen to B&B in the mornings when I'm off. So, have a happy and safe Holiday season to one and all. Catch ya in 2003. |

Holy crap, been 3 friggin weeks since I've updated. Where to begin, where to begin. Well, my son's Hockey season is back in swing and for those of you who've never been part of youth hockey, lemme tell ya it's a serious time sink for the entire family. Waukesha just does NOT have enough hockey rinks, Eble and Nagawaukee both have 1 rink. When you have 12 & 13 year olds who can only get ice time starting at 9:00pm to 9:45 and lasting for 1 hr on a school night (my son routinely goes to bed after 11, wakes up at 5:45), when the high school team can only get practice time after 11pm on school nights, it's time to add another ice rink somewhere. Remember that nice Dodge Dakota I was so happy about buying last May? Thursday before Deer hunting season opened I was on my way home from work and a 11 point buck decided to commit suicide and ran in front of me while I was doing 50+ mph. While I was very happy with how the truck responded to a crash, the $4800 damage and being without my truck for the last 2 weeks really gets on my nerves. Hopefully the repairs will be done sometime today or tomorrow. Work has been nuts lately.. I usually get to listen to YCW 4-5 days a week, and I tape it during those times so I can replay it back later and update the info to here. I think in the last month or so I've got to hear YCW maybe 3 times.. ok - yes, I was off of work all last week, but other than that my mornings have just been friggin nuts lately. Got a new release of our software due out in 2 weeks and it's a mad house around the office. Anyway, yes - I got the complaints about the lack of updates, and ya I'm sorry about that.. I'll try to be better, but no promises. 3 weeks till Christmas, damn.. I have GOT to get my shit together. |

Some enterprising You Can't Win fan dropped a line to the Van Halen fans. I've been getting a trickle of emails from members of that community letting me know that the question is bouncing around in their newsgroup. Hey all you VH Guys & Gals, welcome. they've sent me a couple of good guesses and I'll share them all as I get them. As a courtesy to them, I think it'd be nice for some of you who like VH to swing on by their website and/or check out their Newsgroup , say hi and thanks. Van Halen fan guesses: They all appeared in the 1984 Sinatra video "L.A. Is My Lady". They or one of their band members have been been hospitalized at Cedar-Sinai. They or one of their band has had problems with Alcohol or are Alcohlics. They or one of their band members has received some type of mouth or throat surgery. They all had hit songs that were written by W. K. Mahler!!! (some insider joke I guess.. *grin*) |

What a great time to be a Packer Fan. Monday morning.. the Packers kicked som major ass. Brett Favre is looking better than he ever has in the years he's been with the Packers, he's leading in the fan's Probowl voting with 6 other packers showing up on the list. Last week the Pack was on top of ESPN's Power Ranking , gotta check Tuesday morning to see if they're still on top. They have the #3 ranked Offense , the #9 ranked Defense , but Brett dropped to the #2 ranked QB after Bulger pulled out such a great week. How about dem Bears, Vikings and Lions? *grin* |

Happy friggin Holloween There's some really wierd looking people wandering around here today. A number of people around the office dressed up today, not me.. couldn't see spending the money on a costume and I'm about as creative as a tree stump - not much chance of me just whipping together something.. Election time just around the corner, time to exercise our right - nay, our responsiblity and vote. Don't be like one of the many mindless sheep out there that vote based off of the TV ads or by name recoginition, take some time to learn the candidates views and positions , and make your choice off of that. Personally, I'm a bit worried about the governer race - looks like Doyle is going to win. Now, if you don't mind an increase in taxes - then no worries. However, I'm pretty consistent on how my vote gets placed. I pay in too damn much to the governement as is. Hell Wisconsin has been in the top 10 most taxed state as long as I've been paying taxes (we were in the top 5 for years). Through a reduced increase in taxes, spending caps for schools, we've moved down the list a ways. Doyle's promised the schools that if he is elected he WILL remove the spending caps. Gov. McCallum has proven that raising taxes is his last course of action, and his goal is to get Wisconsin out of the top 10 most taxed states. I think that a vote for Ed Thompson is a vote for Doyle, McCallum is behind in the polls by 8% or so, and Thompson has 10% share. Guess we'll see what happens. Now, having said that - I'd rather people get out and vote for Doyle, Thompson or even Jim Young than not vote. Exercise your right - get out to the polls on Tuesday. |

I can't get my damned printer working. I have a HP PSC 500 Printer / Scanner / Copier, used to work real nice. After I bought a new PC that had Win2000 on it (my old system was Win98), I could get it to print but not scan. So, after downloading a new set of drivers and removing the old, then installing the new drivers, NOTHING WORKS. So I followed their detailed instructions on manually removing everything, and reapplying the updates, still nothing. So, after 20 tries on removing and reinstalling various patches and fixes, I called their tech support. Talk about useless.. 30 min on the phone for the guy to tell me "I don't know whats wrong, so I'll mail you a CD so you can try that." yipee. Did you see that Google now offers a News & News Search page? Looks pretty cool and might be handy searching for "You Can't Win" answers. |

Hmmm, where to start - that is the question of the day. Ok, well yes I've been VERY lax about updating the site. No excuse, just keep seeming to put it off. Got a million things going on and never quite seems to be enough time to get em all done. There's a couple parents who's kids are in the same hockey league that amaze me. Ice hockey is a huge commitment from the whole family, there lots of running around to do. And these parents kind of people who have 3 or 4 kids in hockey, both work full time jobs, donate time to some charity or another, and still find time to bake you a cake. I swear they must have clones or something, I can't get nearly as much time out of my day as they seem to. Of course, taking off and spending 3 days camping over the weekend didn't help me accomplish much, but damn was it relaxing. 4 of us (Doug, Amos, Brent and myself) went over to Blue Mound state park - first time I've been there and I give it 4 stars (out of 5). Nice sized park, hiking trails, the campsites are decent sized, all are wooded and spaced far enough apart. Nothing quite like sleeping on the ground next to a fire pit in near freezing weather and waking up to a dead campfire to really things into perspective. *grin* Yes, I have the CD's burned and Yes, I've gotten the emails and No, I haven't mailed them out yet. Chalk this up as another incident on the things I've been lazy about. Been carrying the damn things around in my laptop bag for 3 weeks now.. I promise I'll get them mailed out this weekend. My thanks to those that offered to provide CD's or cases, or help with the mailing costs etc., I'll let you know if I need some help with it. If it gets out of control I might take you up on it, but for now I believe I have it covered. Speaking of fun, this guys got a hell of a basement arcade - damn, I have GOT to party with this dude. |

One interesting thing to note, it seems that overall those people 21-30 don't care for my rants, while those 31+ enjoy them.. must have something to do with the fact that I fall into that 31+ category myself. Hard to believe that the holiday season is just around the corner.. damn, time to start shopping - yuck. On Sunday I was mowing my lawn and got to thinking about something. See, I have around 1.25 acres of land so it takes me about 1.5 hrs to mow and trim it all, which I don't mind as it gives me some quiet time away from the TV, phone, kids, wife, etc. Anyway, I was busy thinking about all manner of stuff and ended up back to this site. Michael C. posted that there is now 82 people subscribed to the YCW email group , and the stat counter logs I use shows I'm getting around 1600 unique hits a month here. This got me to wondering about who's visiting, why, and what you guys are all about. I figure a couple minutes of poking around here and going thru my old Rant Modes , you can get a general impression of what I'm like. I figure it might be interesting to get to know some of you. So, if you have a couple minutes and wouldn't mind sharing some info about yourself, Use this page to let me know. I won't be sharing it with anyone, won't be selling, trading, bartering or doing anything else with it.. I promise. |

Real short and quick here. Thanks to Don T. my Bob and Brian collection is now complete, he was kind enough to share the "All My Packers II" with me - woohoo! I've had requests for copies of the CD's, and since virtually all of them (except the 2001 By the Numbers ) are unavailable, I'll probably do something. I'm trying to come up with a way though that won't get me into trouble.. the cost for me to burn a MP3 cd (not a regular Audio CD) would only be 40 cents or so, and then mailing costs - I guess I could eat that cost. It'd be nice to get some cash into the "Hunger Task Force" coffers with this, since that's why B&B do the CD's in the first place and after all it is their material that's on the CD's. But, I'm not sure I want to collect the money - it'd leave room for people to question my motives which may leave me open to getting into trouble.. I guess I could just make people promise to donate money when the next marathon happens and hope that they live up to their end of the bargain - I don't think a $15-20 dontation would be an unreasonable request. I think the one stipulation I'd add is that I won't include the tracks from the 2001 By the Numbers CD as you can still buy that from Lazer (just follow the link). And after all it's only $15 when you buy it online and the money goes for a very good cause, so what are you waiting for? Oh, and if your affiliated with the B&B show and think "Oh my GOD! Look at what he's going to do, call the lawyers, NOW!" or something to that effect - just drop me an email before you get all legal on me, please? I'm a fairly decent guy, I can be reasoned with without the assistance of stacks of legal documents in my face. |

Wow, is my ass draggin this morning. It's amazing what a difference waking up 1 hour early feels like, been waking up by 6am instead of 7am. Ya ya, I know that most of you get up at 4 or 5am, but crap - I'm not used to that 6am stuff. Plus I was up till around 1am working on a side project I'm doing to earn some extra cash for some toys I want . We've got a ton of stuff to get done by the end of October, so everyones putting in some extra hours. Now, I realize some of you are thinking "Shut up RJ, shit - I got my hours cut and can't hardly pay my bills". I'm sure that sucks rocks, and I do feel bad for you, but see - I'm salary, I don't get over time - whether I work 40 or 60 hrs a week my paycheck looks the same. Not that I'm complaining about what I make... heck, I'm not even complaining about the hours I have to work to make that money. What the hell was I complaining about? oh ya, damn - am I tired this morning. Picked up that Vision Fitness treadmill I bought off of EBay - had to drive to some small burb SE of Chicago to pick it up. The drive was around 2.5 hrs each way and cost me $6 in damn toll fees. Stupid ass FIB's , what a ripoff. Drive 5 miles, toss in 75 cents, drive 20, toss in another 40cents. I think we should put a toll booth right on the Wisconsin side of the border, off of I-94, and charge the FIB's 75cents for crossing into our state like they do when we cross into their flat land Wish Bob & Brian would either get it right or read my damned emails.. 154 cd's is NOT a record. On 3/8/2001 Linda S. won 156 cds, so obviously we won't be in new record territory until Friday. You'd think since they copied my website when they made their own YCW page, someone there would of read the info it contained. |

I'm so out of it, I don't EVEN have a clue whats went on the last few days in YCW. My hard drive on my home PC up and died the other day, which was a traumatic experience in itself. See, I have all kinds of programs and utilities that I wrote for myself to use (typical programmer geek thing to do), and I didn't have any backups of it. On top of that, all of my personal finance information, taxes, letters, emails, etc were all on that machine. But the most important loss was the code for a side project I'm doing - damn, talk about panic mode.. Yes, I know better - I should of had backups of the stuff - I really do. I guess I just got lazy about it since I've had such good luck thru the years, never having a drive take a crap like that before. Fortunately, I have a friend (no really, I have a friend - maybe even 2 or 3 if I stretch the definition) who is pretty sharp when it comes to hardware. Steve was kind enough to tell me stop panicing and help me through recovering the important data. Only cost me a McDonalds lunch too - talk about cheap labor. I think I might owe him a favor or 3 for that, but it was worth it. Spent the weekend in Roche-A-Cri state park camping with my kids, my friend Doug and his daughter. Wouldn't you know it, it friggin rained the last night. Now, that in and of itself isn't such a wierd thing but this was our third camping trip this summer, and all 3 ended the same way - it rained like a mofo the last night. Who'd of thunk it? We're taking another camping trip in October, think we're going to book the site for an extra night so that we confuse the rain god and he'll try to drench us the last night as usual, only we'll be gone by then. Smart thinking - wouldn't you agree? Speaking of Roche-A-Cri, let me go on the record as saying that of all the Wisconsin campsites I've been to, they have the worst damned wood there. I swear, we struggle to get a fire going using their wood more than all of the other parks combined. I'm convinced they coat that wood in asbestos. Made my first ebay purchase the other day, am I behind the times or what? Been wanting a treadmill to put in the newly completed fitness room in the basement, to sit along side the dusty and unused weight benchs and nordic track. Got a pretty good deal on a really nice treadmill - now I gotta drive down to Chicago and pick it up... oh, and pay for it too I guess - I didn't get that good of a deal. Got a couple emails within the last week about the YCW site that stuck out - emails about stuff I wrote, the site itself, etc. Just wanted to let you know that even though I may not respond to them all, I do read them all and appreciate the feedback. Feel free to drop me a line as the mood suits you - expecially if you find a website worth visiting. |

Think I'm stretching my time to thin. Either that, or I'm just not as productive as I used to be. Seems like no matter how much I do or get done, I still have a hundred other things that demand my time. Helping friends on their computers, around their house, side projects to do, yard work of my own, still gotta finish my rec room, help my parents fix the barn.. the list goes on and on. Why is it that as a kid, the summers used to last forver - it seemed you could do a hundred things in 1 day, fishing, building a fort, racing motorcycles, maybe sneak in a little makeout session with the neighbor girl. Now, the whole damn summer flies by and your left scratching your head wondering where it went, what happened, and what you accomplished. I suspect the blame lies with work - it eats up way too much time of your life. Only, I can't figure out how to pay the bills and not work... or atleast get the summer off. Guess I could of been a school teacher, that might of helped with the summer off thing. Anyway, Q #4 was finally answered, thankfully. Now someone get #5 and we'll never have to listen to those damn questions again. We're getting close to the record of 156 cd's, but I suspect that someone will answer 5 before then. |

It's friday, and I have a bachelor party to attend tonight. What the hell do I have to bitch about? My buddy Steve and his fiancee Jess are getting married in a couple weeks, Gonna take the Dodge Dakota and go hang out at Kelly's Bleachers for a while, then cruise on over to Heartbreakers for a little exotic dancing. And speaking of hot women, did you check out the women at the Lazer Tournement of Babes ? Damn, some nice looking women there.. how come none of you send me pics like that? Come on, there has to be 1 or 2 good looking women out there who read this site. Speaking of good looking, got my pictures back from the camping trip - got a couple pictures of the guys for you - Here and Here (nope, none of me there, I was behind the camera). D-NOM-A-LOS it's friggin D-NOM-A-LOS! DAMN IT, I'm going nuts here.. STUPID PEOPLE. If you can't friggin pronounce it, don't dial the damned phone! ARRRGGGGGGGGG. |

Hmmm.. where to start, what to bitch about today. Been busy and .. well .. just a bit lazy about updating the site. But come on, can you blame me? This friggin contest is getting old, ok - it's *gotten* old. I can't wait for this line of questions to be layed to rest in the annals of YCW History. Well I've ad a couple nice camping trips so far this summer, got another one planned in a few weeks. Enjoy Wisconsin with friends and family on $20 a day, that's my motto. But my wife, her mother, sister, nephew and my kids were going to fly on down to Cleveland for a family reunion. We'd looked at tickets on Midwest Express (Best care in the air - accept no substitute), and they came in at a reasonable $220 per ticket for 8 people. When we went to book it the next day, the price had jumped from $220 to $374 per person. That was an unacceptable increase so I called their Reservation line to see if something could be done - remember, we're talking about 8 tickets here. Unfortunately, the lady on the phone - while a very pleasant woman - could do nothing to help me out. It was $374 or nothing - so we choose nothing. Ended up saying to hell with the reunion and booked some rooms at a hotel in the Dells for the same weekend. Well, today I got in my email bin the weekly "Midwest express best care webfare" email - and you know whats on it? Yup - you guessed it, discounted fares from Milwaukee to Cleveland for $128 per ticket. Now please, someone tell me - how stupid is that? I was ready to buy 8 tickets at $220, they couldn't do it and wanted me to pay $374, and then just 3 days later they're ready to sell the EXACT SAME TICKETS (Date, Time, everything) for just $128. Instead of making $1700+ off of me, Midwest Express made $0. And the airline industry wonders why it's bleeding money. |

Saw on the news this morning that Harry Quadracci passed away.. damn, ain't that a bitch. I worked for Quad for about 5 years, and while I didn't find working for a big company to my liking (waaay to many mangers), I was always impressed with Harry (or HVQ, or The Admiral as he was sometimes called). For the top dog in a large company, he always went out of his way to make himself accessable to his employees. He was often visible in the plants wandering around talking to people, he always responded to the emails that people sent him (all of mine were responded to in less than 20 hrs). Quad held several company parties each year, and while I sometimes heard people complain about the expense of them, HVQ was always there, talking to people, and trying to be sure that people enjoyed themselves. Something that you'll rarely see out of CEO's at companies 1/2 the size of Quad. The few opportunites I had to talk with him, I was left with the impression of a very likeable man, almost grandfatherly - with a genuine concern for his company and employees. Though it's been over 6 years since I worked at Quad, I'm saddend by the loss of a good man, and a strong supporter of our state. I always believed that we are what mark we make on the people around us, not the possessions we accumulate along the way. If when you die, someone says "I'm a better person for knowing him" then your existance has been worthwhile. Our goal should be to try to leave the world a better place than when you got here. For Harry Quadracci, I believe he succeded. |

As you may have guessed from the Quotes, I'm rereading the 'Hitchhikers' series. It's been years since I read them, there as good as I remember them. Off to the dentist later today, damn I hate going to them. Must go back to some pent up, deep seated trauma I suffered at the hands of my childhood dentist or something.. either that, or I just hate having to give them my hard earned money. Why does it seem like that the times in my life I have had dental insurance I never needed it, but soon as I don't have it either me or my kids have a huge dental problem to fix? Both my kids have had braces - no insurance for either ($4k + each). I had to get a crown put on a couple years ago ($1k +) - no insurance. Now I'm getting a tooth pulled today, yup - you got it, no insurance. This shits getting expensive too... |

First day back after a 5 day camping trip to Newport State park . I must say, my tollerance today is... well damn it, its missing. Its amazing how relaxed and calm I was on Saturday, only to get stressed out dealing with all the FIB's driving back home from Door County. And then this morning - man, 93 emails and I was at my desk for an hour before I could start reading them since I had to help others out with their problems. I'm ready for another vacation.. *grin*. "So, how was it Rich" you ask? Well, we had a great time - thanks for asking. Me, Doug C. and Amos drove up to High Cliff park in the Dakota Wednesday afternoon - Kelly, Doug P., and Steve had to work Wed. so they arrived later in the evening. Thursday we went up to Newpork park, backpacked into the campsite and stayed there till Sunday. We pretty much spent the time drinking, gathering firewood, hiking, playing "Risk" on the camping Risk board Doug C made, and Doug P spent quite a bit of time fishing. The weather was damn near perfect - warm days and cool in the evenings (high 50's) - perfect campfire weather. The only day we got wet was when it rained late Saturday night / early Sun. morning. Amos got a good soaking as he never bothered to put a tarp over his hammock - he claimed he woke up and couldn't see as his eye sockets were full of water (grin). I also sleep in a hammock, but I had a tarp over mine so I just a little damp - though I did wake up once with something large and nasty crawling on my neck - I grabbed it and threw it off without seeing what it was, I was pretty sure I didn't want to know! We're already planning next years trip, I think we'd like to head up to the Porcupine Mountains again - it's a great place for camping and backpacking. Still have a couple trips planned yet for this year - got our "Couple's camping trip" coming up soon - taking the S.O.'s camping near the Dells, and a Kids camping trip (the guys bring their kids) in Sept. And then there's the winter camping trip Doug C. and Amos usually take, I think I'll join them this year. Should be interesting camping in the snow... |

I have to start taking the longer, but less traveled route to work again (40 min instead of 30). I used to do it out of self preservation - my little Tercel was a target for crappy driver soccer moms in their mini-vans. Now that I'm driving my Dodge Dakota , I need to do it out of prevention - I'm about ready to put a push guard on the front bumper and start plowing into people. Damn, there is some serious non-driving mofo's out there. Check it out - If your in any other lane than the right lane, do NOT cross 1 or more lanes 50' from the corner so you can cut off the guy int the right lane and make a high speed turn. Just calmly change lanes, head on down to the next street, turn right properly, and work your way back that 1 lousy block. And while we're on the subject of turning, the phrase of the day is "Turn Signal" - use it, and them. Damn.. is there still auto manufactures that have turn signals as being optional on the vehicle or what? And then there's that STUPID son-of-a-bitch who decided he just HAD to cut out in front of me, instead of waiting till I drove past and there was plenty of room behind me, and then couldn't get his friggin pieceofshit up to speed. His Ford must of had bad rubber on those tires and he was afraid they'd disintegrate if he went over 30 (in a 45 mile an hour zone). Yes, I have a habit of driving 5 or so miles over the speed limit, but I don't freak if the person in front of me does the speed limit and I'm forced to do the same. But damn it - atleast do the speed limit! Shesh. |

Damn, I thought we'd never get through question #2. So, "whats been going on lately RJ" you ask? Well, I've been busy - works been seriously nuts lately. Plus, there really was nothing to write since no one could figure out #2. And it's summer time.. I spend my time outside as much as possible and just didn't feel like writing. I'll see about trying to get updates 1-2x a week, but no promises. Heading out next week for our yearly "Guys weekend camping", going backpacking for 5 days. Damn, I cannot WAIT! In the past we've done a number of trips, up to Porcupine Mtns in UP Michigan, Copper Falls (my favorite Wisconsin campgrounds btw), Boulder Junction (canoeing), Roch-i-cri, Buckhorn Park. This year we're heading up to Newport Park - supposed to be a real nice park. I'll see about dropping a photo or 3 on the site once we get back for those who are interested in checking it out. |

Anyone else sick and tired of question #2? Damn, I can't believe that someone hasn't come up with an answer yet, this is bordering on obsurd. We're debating around some of the latest info on the YCW Yahoogroup. I'm guessing the answer is something like "He was the 1946 Atlantic City National Clam & Oyster Openers' Tournament champion" Hell, I don't know what to rant about.. seriously.. it sucks. I could go on about the attractive, but rather masculine looking woman I saw joggin yesterday (some personal fear there.. is it that she's good looking, or maybe it's some sort of latent homosexual attraction thing.. who knows?). I could go on about the work load and some of our customers. Hell, I could rant my ass off on co-workers I think (might be a dangerous topic though). And then there's the whole weed & Feed, drop spreader and rain issue that happened this weekend.. damn, talk about piss me off. Shesh.. so many rants, so little time. Guess I'll just leave it at this, mull it over, and get back to you in a day or 2 with a real rant. Oh ya, new poll is up - Bob vs Fireman Jim. Go vote. |

Ok, I'm busier than a 3 legged cat covering crap on a tile floor, but I gotta share this. Works been hell all week, one of our customers is having problems so we're putting in some crazy hours trying to find and fix the problem(s). Got one of our tech support guys on site, tensions are running high and tempers are flairing. Around 5pm I had to take a break and get some food so I hoped in the truck and headed over to Arbys - only I realized along the way I didn't have any cash (GRRR).. Ok, fine. I head over to the ATM machine to get some cash. While I was making a withdrawl my low gas light goes on. *GGRRR Sonofa...*. Well, I fight across a couple lanes of rush hour traffic and head on down the road to the nearest filling station. I'm sitting at a stop light and a pickup pulls along side with 3 people in it, the guy on the passenger side near me looks at me and says something. Now, here I am in a pissy mood and some scruffy looking dude wants to mouth off, well I ain't having any of that. So I turned down my radio, looked at this scrub and said kind of irritated like "What?". He looks at me and in a straight face says "I lowered my Colesterol". I damn near wet my pants laughing.. Here I am all pissed off and he says something stupid like that. With a grin I replied "I've had a really shitty day, thanks for making me laugh." Well works still kicking my ass and I'm here at the office at 9:30 trying to find the damn problem, but I'm in a much better mood. Amazing how 1 person can turn your day around, hey? I lowered my colesterol... lol.. |

I have no excuse - I've just been lazy about updating the site.
What can I say, the weather is nice, work is busier than all get out, and the
callers have been abnormally braindead lately. It's kinda hard to get pumped
about updating info when most callers can't get past the first friggin question.
So - speaking of work, you know that whole BSA audio commercial they've been running on all the radio stations around here? Well, the boss is pretty freaked out over it - they've been running around making sure all software is ok and legal on every pc in the office. I think it's over kill - like the BSA would come into a small office like this, I think they're out to get the John Deere / Quad Graphics / Manpowers of the region, not the little 20 person offices. Not that we had to worry about it, they've been very good thru the years to keep every thing licensed properly. Whats getting to be a pain is that we need to either remove any personal software from the laptops or provide them with the serial numbers. Yes - I know that it's company hardware and it's totally in their right to ask this - don't bother trying to lecture me on it, I'll just ignore your email. *grin* What's a pain is that because of the stupid BSA fear commercials is that we've lost a priviledge we had before. They didn't really care what we installed on work laptops as long as it didn't interfer with work. Heck I had 6 gig's worth of games installed on this damn thing! After 3 nights of work, this damn thing has been stripped down to being just a boring old work computer again. |

Whats your Star Wars name? Here's how you figure it out.
For your first name: 1. Take the first 3 letters of your 1st name and add 2. The first 2 letters of your last name. For your last name: 1. Take the first 2 letters of your middle name and add 2. The first 3 letters of the city you were born in. For your honorific title: 1. Take the last 3 letters of your last name and reverse them 2. Add the name of the first car you drove/owned, then 3. Insert here the word "of" 4. Add the name of the last medication/supplement you took. I'm Ricwe Jowau, Gniskylark of Centrium. Beats the hell out of my porn name - Charlie Oakdale. And the battle continues.
Remember the story about
Microsoft vs Schools?
There was an interesting follow up, including what Microsoft is doing for
damage control, over at
SEUL.org
.
Whats most amazing to me is that not only does Microsoft want people to pay for a license on all machines , including Macs and Linux boxes - they also seem to want to make colleges and universites pay for people who don't even use computers There is a strong movement in the education world to move over to free operating systems, Opensourceschools.org and Schoolforge.net are leading the way. And it's not just the USA, Spain and other countries are using Linux also. |

Well smak my ass and call me a monkey.
The B&B show is really starting to cover the state, welcome on board
Z104, WMZK
up there in Central Wisconsin.
Ah yes, I remember the good old days, back when it was only us lucky few down
in the range of
Lazer103
who got to listen to them.
Anyone care to make a prediction or two? I bet we go thru the email debate about the Teletype noise during the Hollywood news stories. We're already getting the "You suck, you don't play any music" debate going again. All I can say to the B&B newbie's out there - give 'em a chance, they'll grow on you. It'll be interesting to see how the Bob and Brian Golf open changes, they already have what, 600+ people attend it? I don't know how they could add any more spots. I bet that they release a "Best of Bob and Brian" CD collection set, I know that they were considering it before, now having the additional listeners. If you ain't heard the Duange Gay chicken story yet.. your in for a treat. Speaking of B&B cd's, I *STILL* don't have all of the tracks from the 1993, "All My Packers II" cd, I'm missing about 10 of them. Once I get those I can about sharing a CD of tracks with people, I got an Unofficial OK to do it several months ago, just as long as I don't sell it. Well, I am.. pretty much. Damn I like riding around in my

, though it
does have a thirst for petro. Oh well, a small price to pay.
Bought a nice sized tree the other day, a 3" diameter Autumn Blaze Maple from Piala's Nursery. Man, that's one heavy son-of-a-bitch! Damn glad my friends stopped by to help dig the hole and drag that bad boy out of the Dakota's box. Looks good out there in my front yard. Speaking of front yards.. man, I'm stuck here. On one side I have a vacant lot which is end to end weeds - the dude that bought it hasn't built his house yet, and his weeds like to try and migrate over to my yard. On the other side is some neigbors who, while my wife and I like them, don't do jack-squat when it comes to yard care. They've got so damned many dandilions and weeds there, you'd swear they planted them on purpose. I'm really trying to get my yard looking good, but it ain't easy folks - it aint easy. Of course, the neighbors dog crapping in my yard does help fertilize my grass... umm... gee, maybe I should thank them. Ya think? |
| Rant Mode - 5/2/02 Well, got the bed liner sprayed in by Line-X. They did a great job, the people were friendly enough, called on Monday and they did it on Wednesday. All in all a satisfactory buying experience. Of course, they didn't give me any sort of a discount so that's about all the free advertising they get from me. *grin* |
| Rant Mode - 4/30/02 And the good news is, I finally bought a truck! Picked up a 1998 Dodge Dakota, red extended cab with only 38k miles. Now you don't have to read about it any more, woo hoo! I called Line-X of Milwaukee and made an appt to get the bed liner sprayed in. I asked if I'd get a discount since I give them free advertising here - the guy I talked to didn't sound very impressed. Guess we'll see. Heck, for a 1/2 price discount I'd even put a logo of theirs on the site for a couple months, discount the full price and I'd leave it on for an entire year! |

Then I downloaded the newest version of Ad-Ware and the definition files for

you use or have installed any software like Grokster, Morpheus, RealPlayer,

For those who care, another week is coming to a close and still no truck. *grin* Think I'll take an extended lunch and swing by State Fair park, I hear they have that Mega Sale going on. Shesh.. Michael C. wrote "Hate to be a pet peever - change the spelling on your web site to Israel Weintraub and you have the new stuff dated yesterday. Here is the link to #2's answer ". Well, still no new truck. I'm about ready to give up on this hunt.. ok, not really - but I am ready to take my time and wait for the right vehicle, it's not really that much of a rush. Bought "Microsoft Money" yesterday and spent several hours pluggin in all of our bills and expenses from the beginning of the year to date, trying to figure out where the hell my paycheck is going. I've come to the conclusion - My wife and kids are spending it all. Like I didn't know that $25 and 5 hrs earlier... shesh. |

Ok, I was wrong.. my truck search is not at an end. Damn salesman wouldn't budge an inch.. ok, he budged $100 and dropped the price from $15,400 to $15,300... not nearly enough. For that price I'll go pick up the black one that caught my eye, since it's a 99 and already has a sprayed in bedliner. I'm really getting sick of this looking crap, I hate shopping for vehicles. I don't play this barganing thing well.. I *HATE* to barter back and forth.. hate isn't strong enough, I loath it - despise it even. Give me a price, either I like it or I don't. If I like it I'll write a check, buy the damn thing and we part ways happy. If I don't, I'll walk away.. there's plenty of other vehicles around to buy. WHO THE HELL ARE THESE PEOPLE?!!? Damn stupid idiots... who is the moron Dave who keeps calling in when he absolutely NO clue what the hell is going on with the contest? 65 friggin CD's and we're not past question one... how can people like him get in time after time, yet those of us who have a reasonable guess never get in? Well, my hunt for a truck may be nearing it's end. Found a Dodge Dakota that is close to what I was looking for in a vehicle, now if we can only come to terms on a price. I have to say, both Carspot.com and Cars.com have been real useful in my search for a new ride. If you're in the market to find a used vehicle, I HIGHLY recommend you use a site like Carfax.com to check out any vehicle you might be interested in. It costs $19.95 for a 30 day unlimited subscription. Just punch in the vehicles VIN number and it'll run a bunch of checks to be sure the vehicle is clean. I stopped from buying a Toyota Tacoma because of the info I found there, records show that "Accident Reported Vehicle involved in crash with another motor vehicle Very severe damage reported". Cool, hey? If I do buy this Dakota I'm going to need to get a bed liner put in. I wonder if I can work a deal with Line-X of Milwaukee - I could give them some free advertising here in exchange for a spray in bedliner. |

Still haven't bought one though - go figure. What can I say, I want a nice dependable vehicle and I don't want to spend a ton of money. Stupid Poll site is broken, can't update my poll.. I guess it's what I get for using a free site instead of a pay site. I haven't spent any money on this site yet, and don't plan on it - if anything, I'd like to make money off it, not spend it! So, unless I can find a new free poll site, or this guy fixes his code, I'll have to drop my polls. |

Not sure I want the payments though, but I really am sick of driving my little piece of crap Tercel. My friends are sick of hearing me whine about my car and want me to just buy the damn truck and shut the hell up about it. I had a really cool dream the other night, the subject of which isn't worth that long of a tale.. just a lot of things happening, some of them pretty strange (like the cave we were camping in suddenly turning into a train car, and the train started to move).. I wish I could interpret dreams. I've been remembering more and more of them lately. Anyway, at the end of my dream there was a song playing - Truckin by the Gratefull Dead - and the refrain played several times "What a long strange trip it's been". First time I remember having a dream with a theme song.. wierd, hey? I wish I could video tape and replay my dreams, some of them have been pretty cool lately and would make for a good movie plot. |

Damn, this Daylights savings thing is kicking my ass. Either that or it's the after effects of the paint fume buzz I had going yesterday. I really should of followed the warning label on that paint can and had better ventilation in my basement while I was painting the rec room ... I was feeling pretty damn goofy by the time I finished. |

Friggin H&R Block and their crappy software, TaxCut 2001. Quick rant here. I bought the TaxCut software online. When I get done entering data and try to run the final check, I get an error and it crashes. So, being a good techhead I cruise on over to the Taxcut website and look thru their online help. It's a known issue with Win2000, all I need to do is download a patch. Only thing is, I can't download the patch. So I call tech support. The support guy was decent about it, tells me that it's a known problem - seems that if you use a router or hub for your network, you can't use their secure website. You CAN purchase the software (ie. give them my Credit card info) but you can't get the patch - go figure. And then he gives me the best news, I can't submit an electronic return either. So I spent money on their software, only to find I can't do my taxes with it. Best thing about it is that it's a known problem but they don't give ANY warning about it on the box or on their website. |

Damn, this has been a great week so far. Made some major changes to the work environment over the weekend and I've been scrambling ever since to put out flames and tweak the little things that weren't caught in the test phases. Bare with me this week, I have a feeling it's not going to get much better before friday. Is everyones life this friggin hectic or is it just mine? If anything happens with the YCW contest please drop me a line, I haven't caught it yet this week. |

ARRGGGGG sonofabitch. You know what I really hate? I hate it when you wake up and have this great absolutely great idea, an epiphany, a moment of clear thought and understanding that is rarely given to the likes of us common folk an Einstein like moment if you will a moment so unlike the rest of your day that you lay in bed thinking "Good god, I'm a GENIUS! That's it! That's the answer to everything!". Then, you hop out of bed and merrily go about your business of getting ready for work, showering, dressing, eating breakfast, etc. And on the way to work, you cheerfully recall the feeling of clear thought that you had early that day, then scratch your head and ponder "Hmmmm, now what was that great idea I had?" Just so you know, I had a really good rank worked up this morning when I woke up, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was all about. While we're on the topic of clear thought and understanding. A friend of mine dropped this bomb on me the other day It seems that he can recall almost every conversation that he's ever had. With anyone. Ever. Now, like you my first impulse was to think "Bullshit". The only thing is, while he's not afraid to spin a good yarn or confuse you with a good bullshit story if you prove yourself gullible, I believe him. Then, after dwelling on it for a short while, I got the feeling that he and I had this conversation before, only I forgot about it. Then I realize "Damn, he probably remembers that he's told me before, and thinks I'm an idiot for not remembering". And THEN I got to wondering how many other times we've had the same conversation twice and he was left thinking "Foolish mortal, I've told him this before.. June 3rd, 2000, 3:14pm to be exact. Now my wife tells me all the time that she told me something, but I must of forgot it. In my book, that's pretty normal. I mean seriously, does anyone really listen to their spouse all the time? I know I'm politely ignored while my wife is busy watching friends, ER or Oprah, and she knows better than to ask me a question during Soprano's, Junkyard wars or Packer football. But to have another guy, someone who's supposed to be on your team, have that sort of memory .. well it's just not fair. Kinda like playing a game of hockey he gets to wear full set of pads and I'm wearing nothing but figure skates. Oh well, it's not his fault he's got that Rainman thing going on. It's not like he rubs peoples face in it or anything. And all in all, he's a likeable sort of guy (not that way you freaks.. not like I got a thing for him or anything.. shesh). Pretty much normal in all respects.. except for that idiot savant sort of thing he's got going. Also, he's damn good at getting free drinks when we go out partying too so that's definitely something in his favor. Plus he did offer to work with me if I can find a way to make that talent of his win us some cash next time we're at the bar.. another notch in his favor. So I guess as long as he is patient and willing to tell me the same thing 2 or 3 times till it sticks into the grey matter that sloshes around in my head, I'll forgive him for making me feel like an idiot. |

Repeat. The radio is dead. Do me a favor, if anything new is revealed during YCW, pass it on to me. Thanks |

I used to be cool once, back when being cool was a good thing. Oh sure, I'm not talking Fonzi cool - seriously, how many of us knew anyone that cool. But I dated girls, sometimes 2 or 3 at a time. I had a dirt bike (motorcycle, not BMX), I raced snowmobiles, had several nice cars & trucks, we used to go crusin on Hwy 100 looking for 'chicks', went to late night parties (the drinking age was 18 then, remember?). Oh ya, I had my moments. But somewhere along the way, I'm not exactly sure when, I lost it. I'm pretty sure I was still cool when I got married, but between then and my daughter becoming a teenager, the coolness disappeared. Just ask my daughter, she'll tell you - her dad's not cool. Hell, I'm not even sure that cool is something you want to be anymore. Kids were phat for a while, but I don't think you want to be phat anymore.. or maybe you do.. what do I know? What kids don't realize is that long ago, before they were born, their parents were real people. Parents had friends, went to parties, hung out at the 'in' places, drove the 'in' vehicles, and did the 'in' things. Then they had kids. And the parents had to stop worrying about being 'in' and start worrying about little things like food, diapers, schools & schoolwork, babysitters, life insurance, health insurance, dentists, and who touched who first, or who's copying who. You can't do these things and be cool - it just not possible. Of course, if you're a parent and your not doing these things, your not really a parent, now are you? Now I sit back and worry about paying bills, making sure my family's medical needs are taking care of, and that there is food on the table. I debate politics and religion with my friends and family. I realize the truth in 'hangovers hurt more than they used to' and hope my kids never do. I used to love driving fast cars, now they're dangerous things that could take my kids from me. I used to like meeting new girls and going out on dates - now I cringe every time some little hormone crazed bastard calls the house looking for my daughter. And I spend hours debating the pros and cons between 2 jobs, comparing the benefit plans and retirement packages. So, if my kids read this.. just so you know, I used to be cool. Then you came along.. you did this to me. And speaking from experience, being a Dad is much better than being cool. |

I just took a trip on over to Lazer's site and while I was there I checked out the Babe of the Month page . Dang, I have to say that there's a couple real nice looking women there... real nice. What kind of idiot am I? "Gee, I should come up with my own poll question"... blech. What I should of done is come up with my own "Unoffical Babe of the Month". Of course, I have nothing to offer in prizes and anyone that good looking would probably send their picture to Lazer instead of me. I guess I could ask a couple of my friends for pic's of their girlfriends, wifes and/or sisters to make it look like babes are really sending me sexy photo's for my website. Problem is, that might end up with me either ruining a friendship, getting my ass kicked, or both. I can picture it now ... "Hey Steve, your girlfriends pretty cute - got any shots of her in a bikini or nightie I can have?" .. "What? You asshole!" *WHAM!* I suppose I could rip off photos from someone else's website, only that would probably end up with me getting sued - so that won't work either. I'm could always put together a prize package out of my own pocket to entice women to send me scantily clad pictures of themselves, but if my wife found out.. damn, that'd be ugly. "You spent $200 on WHAT??" Ya.. bad idea. Atleast if I took Steve Czaban's advice and spent it on lappers there wouldn't be an public record of it on the internet for her to find - unless I was stupid enough to publish the fact here - which I won't .. err, wouldn't. Anyway, if you want to sent me pictures of yourself go right ahead. Maybe I'll put them up, maybe not. You'll get absolutely nothing for the effort - except maybe a chance at 50 or so people a day checking you out. Enticing offer, I know.. what can I say? It's all I got. |

So I got this brilliant idea of putting a poll on the website. Maybe do a poll of the week - see what people think about different subjects. As you probably noticed I started with the first one on "Who's your favorite You Can't Win hostess". Only thing is, I really hate how it's laying on the web page - it looks really cheap and shitty, doesn't it? So I started playing with another website redesign - I'm hoping to get rid of all of the frames and use all CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) design. Tolerate the crap look for a couple days, hopefully I can come up with a better looking design for you all to enjoy. Now the problem is that for those of you with older browers your going to see a really mangled webpage most likely. If your using version 4.0 of Netscape or Internet Explorer, we're going to have problem... hopefully no one is, or if you are your willing to upgrade to a real browser. But, your saying "Rich - I really don't feel like upgrading to a browser that's less than 4 years old". Well, all I can do is refer you to "To Hell with Bad Browsers" to see how your browser is going to work, and why you should upgrade if you need to. Also take a short trip over to Webstandards.Org to see what they have to say on the subject of Standard comliant browsers. |

Don't bitch at me for the lack of updates.. It's those lazy asses Bob and Brian - they're the ones on vacation. Kinda hard to update with the latest info if the contest isn't being ran, ya know? For those who care - I have a job interview on Friday. Not that I really need a new job, but what the hell - always need to keep your options open, right? Looks to be a decent company from what I read and heard about it. Definitely alot closer for me to drive each day, I'm really getting tired of this 40 min commute each way. It all depends on how their benefits are ... well, that and how good of an offer they make me. Can you believe that the head hunter had the nerve to ask me if I'd be willing to take a pay cut to change jobs? lol - what does he take me for, an idiot? I just laughed and told him no way, I won't even change for a lateral move .. why would I? Anyway, I figure it'll be fun doing the interview... haven't had to do it for a number of years, no real pressure since I already have a decent job. Just do me a favor, no one tell my boss I'm looking, ok? I think the bitch of it would be if they extend me a respectable offer, then my current employer counter offers. To me, that's a friggin insult. Look - if all of a sudden you think I'm worth $X more per year just because another company offered it to me, then why the hell weren't you paying me that to begin with? I don't think I could take a counter offer from my employeer.. it'd be like a slap in the face. "Well, we knew you were worth more but you weren't quitting so why should we pay you the extra money".. Guess we'll have to wait and see how it all shakes out. |

Alright - time to quench the rumors. NO - we were not kicked out of the hotel in Rhinelander, that was another team that was up there playing - the Ozaukee Green team. My son's team played them (and won 3-1) on saturday, maybe that's why they were all upset, got drunk and trashed their hotel - who knows. How many of you listen to Mark Behling? Man, that guys whacked I tell you. Every time he opens his mouth to say something about parenting it just reinforces how absolutely CLUELESS he is about the subject. He can talk all he wants about light rail, freeways, taxes and elections - but on the subject of parenting, kids, or family related events, he's gotta learn to just shut the hell up. |

Another 'behind the wheel' rant. Me and the family drove up to Rhinelander this past weekend to attend my son's hockey tournament. Holy crap there was a lot of idiots with their snowmobile trailers heading north. My question is - where do these idiots learn to drive, from their soccer moms / wifes? Driving north on Hwy 45, 2 lanes of traffic, and there's a semi in the right lane doing 63 in a 65. In the right lane is a snowmobile trailer matching the semi's speed. I have no clue what kind of vehicle is pulling this trailer, the damn thing is as big as a house and you can't see around either side or over the top to tell if it actually has a vehicle pulling it. This stupid SOB doing 2 miles under the speed limit can't seem to find it in his heart to GET THE HELL OUT OF THE FAST LANE so the line of cars behind him can go on past. I really don't know whats so damn hard about people getting out of the fast lane. You look in your rear view, see a car / truck / whatever gaining quickly, just move the hell over to the right lane. There's always signs reading "Slower traffic stay right", it's not that difficult of a concept. When your car strains pulling the load of that trailer and those snowmobiles, plus the couple cases of brew you have in the back, plus your fat ass, up a hill - GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY. I set the cruise and can maintain a constant 65 up and down hills. Nothing is more irritating that having to kick off the cruise and idle down to 50 because you've overloaded your vehicle and it has to chug it's way up a hill, only to top out at 75 as it careen's down the other side of the hill. Get the hell over to the right lane and make room for us who know how to drive to get past. Oh, and for those interested my son's team did very well in the hockey competition - they made it to the championship game but lost 2-1. Taking 2nd in the state is a quite an accomplishment. |

I hate all those non driving son of a bitches in their SUV's! Jesus, there should be a special driving test people have to take before their allowed to buy a Minivan, SUV or Pickup truck. I'm getting really tired of some soccer mom behind the wheel of a Honda Odyssey - or some other similar vehicle - thinking she's some badass bitch so she doesn't have to check her rearview mirror when she changes lanes, or her life is too damn busy to wait for the next light and she's just gottta blow that yellow light. I drive a small import, hey it's not pretty but I have a 40 min drive to work each day and my Tercel gets ~36 mpg, it's paid for and it's dependable. Anyway, I swear to God atleast once a day I have to dodge some moron in their SUV. It's like they look at my car, think "Bah, that little piece of shit will avoid me - or he'll die" and put their vehicle in my path. Of course when I drive my dad's Dodge Ram 3500 1 ton Disel these same badasses suddenly turn into a bunch of balless whimps - go figure. The other day on the way home from work driving down hwy 164 I damn near T-boned some minivan bitch because she couldn't wait to turn left until AFTER I had went thru the intercetion (and there was no cars behind me). Her day was SOOOO friggin busy she just had to turn infront of on coming traffic ( ME and another vehicle). I damn near shit myself - had to swerve, crank the brakes, and try to avoid side swiping the car next to me while avoiding t-boning the idiot in front of me. I've had some pretty impressive accidents in my day - but this had the makings of an all time great. I have absolutely NO clue how I avoided that accident, pure blind luck is the only answer. I'm about ready to trade up for an old beatup pickup, put a plow on it and drive it that way 365 days a year.. bet none of those soccer moms would tempt fate then. |

Don't you just hate it when people don't do what they say they are? Or when people say "I quit!", then they don't? I know I do - which pretty much makes me a hipocrit - annoying, isn't it? I choose to keep on with the site for several reasons, I did get alot of great fan mail over the last couple days encouraging me to keep the site alive, plus .. I still need a place to vent. Even if no one visited here, I'd still be ranting as needed and sharing the cool things I find on the net. I've added a new section for "My favorite quotes" down below, plus I've moved the "Readers Guesses" down to the bottom near the "Wrong Answers" and "Brians Hints" - just seemed to make sense to put it there. Cleaned up the header a bit to conserve some space and added a disclaimer for my crappy website. If anyones mad, disappointed or frustrated with me for the last few days, oops - sorry. Like the guy said at my son's hockey game the other day "10 years from now will this really matter? Will anyone really care?" |

Ok, I lied - I got another rant in me. What pisses me off is that I let this shit get to me like it did. Believe it or not I'm usually a pretty calm guy, it takes a bit to get me pissed. Oh sure, I'll argue just about any point with anyone just for the sake of a good arguement, but for me to get really riled up - that's pretty rare. So why did this set me off like I did? I'm not really sure.. I thought about it last night a bit and couldn't put my finger on it. Being told to I "Suck Gods P.P" (yes, that's actually the words the writer used) and that I should "Get motivated, Man !! Or get off the web!!", while it's worthy of a good flamefest it shouldn't of pissed me off like it did - I have thicker skin that that. I guess I should of just laughed at the stupidity of the email, when you think about it. Hell, I did 4 years in the Marine Corps, that sort of stupid shit is what people said when they complemented you - believe me, you sure as hell didn't want to get cut down! To be honest, that ranting was barely above juevenile - my teenage kids can rip into people worse than that. You know what.. it's my website, I can say or do whatever the hell I want. While it's kinda cool having people read what drivel spews out of this pumpkin I wear on my shoulders and maybe getting a laugh or two out of it - that's not the point really. It's my way of doing an agression dump - of blasting the stupid shit that sometimes happens to us all. We all need to unload once in a while, and this is my way of doing it. If I tie it in with B&B and their You Can't Win contest, so be it. So - if the content you find here isn't updated often enough - so sad, too bad... don't stop by as often. Tell ya what, make your own site and if you do a real good job send me the link so I can add it to my "Cool Website" list, will ya? The fact is that I post at my pace, at my leisure, as the whim suits me. If you find something useful for the YCW contest, or a cool website to enjoy, or a rant that you can laugh about or sympathize with - then that's cool. If not - well then thanks for stopping by my crappy website anyway, and gosh I'm sorry it's not better. Have a crappy day, and enjoy your crummy job. P.S. - For all of you who sent me the emails since I blew a gasket - thanks, they meant alot to me. P.P.S - No, I'm not talking about you - the people who wrote shit like "Quiters never win. Winners never quit. Therefore, you will never win "YCW". Quiter.". I just find you funny .. like a clown .. here to amuse me. Thanks for the laugh. |

Well gang, here it is - my final rant - 2/18/02
Screw it - it's been real but I'm done. I've gotten more than enough email bitching about how I don't update my site often enough - but the one I got today made me realize that it's time to pull the plug. [...]Let's face it! You really do suck!! You have this web site, yet you refuse to update it. Pathetic excuses "I'm on vacation", "I'm sick", "So much work to do at my stupid job", "My S/O needs a boink", etc.,. Why exactly do you have this web site when you refuse to tend to it? [...] Look, I did this site for *ME*, because I like the B&B show and decided to keep track of the questions and answers - just because I was interested in it. Hell, I had close to 2 years worth of history before I ever decided to make a website for YCW. No one pays me a dime for doing this. I did it on my time, updating the rants and cool sites as the mood hit me. If that's not enough for the people who visit my site, then I'm sorry I disappointed ya. Unfortunately it's not as high a priority in my hectic life as you all want it to be - so it's time for me to shut it down. So long, and thanks for all the fish. ********* 12:17pm To those who frequented the YCW site, thanks for stopping by - I hope you got a laugh or two along the way. To those who won a YCW contest because of something you found here - you're most welcome, glad I could play a part. Maybe one day I'll actually win a YCW contest myself. You really have the contributors to thank though, they did all of the work, I just posted what they found onto the site. To the YCW contributors past and present - you have my gratitude. This site wouldn't have been much use without your emails. I'd like to offer a special thanks to Michael C. and Jay for their contributions to the site, you guys have been great - thanks a ton. - Rich |

Damn it, I'm sick and tired of all of the friggin spam Urban Legend email I get. It seems everybody and their mother gets the emails about how "Some guy I know watched a segment on the history channel, where Oliver North wanted to go after Osama Bin Laden but Al Gore wouldn't let him", or how "Our congressmen are getting gigantic retirement benefits we don't get", or the very popular "The foreign car manufacturers aren't giving anything to the 9/11 funds, so don't buy your new car from them". For years I've been looking into these type of emails before I send them on to my friends and family, you'd think by now that they would do the same before they send it on to me. It's really NOT THAT DIFFICULT to check the truth of the emails, 2 min TOPS, and that's if you have a slow internet connection. Do me, yourself, and anyone in your contact list a favor. Before you foreward on a hard to believe story about someones sisters husbands nephews 3rd cousins friend who saw/heard/did something bizzar, check to see if it's just another bullshit urban legend spamming everyones email boxes.. one of the best places to check out the accuracy is at Snopes Urban Legend site |

Got a serious stomach thing going on, might be an ulcer - I'll know come Monday when I see the doc to review the results. Yipee.. hey? Like you all give a shit.. lol Man, is Tom Ament a unbelieveable or what? I saw on the news today that he's starting legal action to stop the recall effort by throwing out all of the signatures that have been collected to date, to stop them from collecting any more, and to make the Citizens for Responsible Government pay for his legal fee's. I'm so friggin sick of this guy and others like him, I'm outraged at the way they raped Milwaukee taxpayers. Hell, I don't even live in Milwaukee and I'm donating to the cause to get this SOB recalled. Personally, I think that the only reason he hasn't resigned yet is because he signed that document saying he wouldn't take the pension payout. Boy, I bet he's pissed at his handlers for letting him sign that thing, hey? |

Damn Spyware software! Man, I'm sick of this shit. Ever so often you download and install software that thinks is OK to install a Spyware / Adware program . This is a hidden program that lurks in the background, monitoring your internet usage, and then deciding that "Hey, what this user reallly wants to see right now is an Ad for Viagra!" - so it pops up an ad window. And of course, Spyware programs get paid for this violation of your privacy. Well no more I say, and others agree with me! Are you wondering if there are any spyware programs running in the background on your computer? You can find out by downloading Ad-aware software . If you want to stop these spyware programs from infecting your computer, and to help reduce some of the popup ads that websites force on you (like Doubleclick) then check out AdShield . Here's an interesting article I found, if you have problems with Internet Explorer crashing you might want to Read This

Ain't that a bitch.. Got an email from Mike H., complaining about my lack of updates... how the site hasn't changed in weeks. So I was thinking "WTF is he talking about? Just updated a couple days ago". Go figure, somehow I screwed up in pushing the update to the server and it never made it here. Sorry about the extended delay in updates. So I'm chatting with my daughter last night on the drive home from my parents house, and we get into this big discussion about life, school, work, etc. She tosses out a comment about "Why should I get so worried about school and all of my time getting good grades so I can go to college where I work just as hard, so I can graduate and get a job where I work really hard? There's more to life than that, I want to enjoy and have fun." (FYI - She's an honor student at her high school) I'm staring at her thinking "Where the hell did that work ethic come from?" Sure isn't from her parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles. Guess she wants to sit back, take it easy, and get everything from her dad until the day she gets married and can get everything handed to her from her husband, because her life is too valuable to be wasted on the mundane task of survival - partying is much more fun. And for some reason, her time is more valuable than her parents.. I tell ya, the minds of a teenager. Guess I can't bitch too much, she is on the honor roll, and just got her first job.. so even though she's got this *dream* of a life of kicking back and enjoying it 100% of the time, she's not tossing in the "success by hard work" towel just yet. Good thing she got that job too, because I think her pipeline of cash from mom & dad just got cut off. |

Damn, the first RANT of the new year and I ain't got shit to say. Ok, that's not exactly true.. I cracked up the car over the holiday. Nothing bad, couldn't stop on the downhill slope of the road and bit the curb. Did a number on the lower control arm, rim, etc.. cost me about $1k to get the damn thing fixed. But like my dad says "It's just metal, it can be fixed. No one got hurt, that's what matters." Here's the bitch of it.. do I turn it in to insurance and watch my rates go up, or do I just pay out of pocket and forget about it? If I pay out of pocket, why the hell do I carry insurance if I'm not gonna use it? I tell ya, these insurance companies got ya screwed coming and going. I hope everyone had a fun, safe, and enjoyable holiday season. |

Plus I gotta try to come up with something for her.. and fit it all in under the budget for this year. Gonna have to head to the mall this weekend. I really hate mall shopping - I mean, we're talking serious hate here. Remember that email I got that read "Dude, its only week 3 and the Packers have played 3 cream puffs. Let's see where the Packers finish before you anoint them the Central Division champs ok? - Mark" ? Well, here we are 9 weeks later. The Central Div looks like this - Bears 9-2, Packers 8-3, Bucc's 5-6, Vikings 5-6, Lions 0-11. Your right dude, the Packers aren't the Central Division champs... yet. Let me take this time to repeat what I said back on 10/5. The Vikings keep on sucking.. I want to know where those people are that were predicting the NFC Central was going to be 1. Vikings, 2. Bucc's, 3. Lions, 4. Packers, 5. Bears. Probably hanging out with the people who wanted to trade Brett off while he's still got something left.... haha.. idiots. I'm friggin PUMPED about this weekends Packers - Bears game. Of course, I hope the Packers win.. but either way I hope it's not a blow out. This is one of the biggest Packers/Bears game of my life, easily the most important one that I can recall. I'm hoping for a real down in the trenches, snow blowing across the field, hard hitting, all out balls to the wall football game! And again I find myself doing an update to a rant. Got a letter from Michael C. pointing out the article in the Sentiel by Tim Cuprisin - basically, Lazer says that the incorrect correct answer stands. Ah shit.. where to start? The flood of email I received sure demands I say something about this topic. Bob, Brian - ya you two - you fucked up, fucked up BIG TIME. Question #5 was a huge mistake, the question was flat out wrong. I got a ton of email about how wrong it is and the arguements why, but I'll refer to the letter that Rick K. sent me: I uncovered that page on "Papa" Papanickolas a long time ago searching solely on the years and dollar values. But I wrote it off as "close, but no cigar" given its gross ambiguity of the source vs. the question. In fact, even a casual reading of that page will indicate that it cannot give a correct answer to question 5. Consider the following: "Papa" was 77 years old at the time that article was written in 2000. For him to be the subject in question five, he would have had to taken his post at Disney at birth. Also, while "Papa" was the oldest living grip in Hollywood at that time, he notes that he started "digging holes" at Disney....NOT gripping. Consider the history of Walt Disney Studios: Disney Studios was 77 years old in 2000. At the beginning, it was owned by Walt Disney, and a man called Iwerks. Iwerks was the higher paid of the two at the beginning, at a mere $40/week. Consider the times: Movies cost a nickle to enter. A person making $2.75/hour would have been highly paid indeed! Another reader, Jodi, wrote in with this info: ....and I did see the answer you have today. But I had also called Walt Disney Studios Archive Dept...(someone had already called him) but he said he has no idea....the company was started 77-78 yrs ago...there were only 6 employees back then...and they did not keep salary records!! So although the article mentions those wages...I think Brian has a wrong answer... Now, you may wonder "Gee Rich, did Bob & Brian know about this mistake?". Oh ya, they sure did. They received the same email from Rick that I did, they received an email that Jay (the GEEPA guy from Tuesday) sent them, and they received a letter from me. I suspect that others sent them a letter also. Now, I'll grant that it's just a game - no live's hang in the balance so it's really not worth getting too worked up over, expecially in light of all the recent world events. And the game *is* called "You can't win", they never guarentee that the questions and answers are 100% accurate. There has been times in the past that there was a correct answer given, but it wasn't the answer that B&B were looking for. And I'd hate for B&B to stop doing YCW because of a controversy over a fucked up question. But damn, gimme a break - giving a question that is SOOOO wrong friggin sucks. People who had found the answer weeks ago discarded it because it didn't fit - it wasn't possible. I'm not sure what they can do about it. Jay got screwed when he called in Tuesday. Other listeners who discounted the answer got screwed. I guess I'd be satisfied with hearing - "Hey guys, we screwed up - sorry", I'm not sure others would agree though. I've gotten a couple emails along the lines of "I can't believe they did it, this is WAR!", so I know that there are some pretty pissed of individuals out there. I really wasn't happy with the way they blew off Jay (GEEPA) today when he called in on the "One Question line", it's like they knew he was going to call them on the fuckup and they wanted to get him off air ASAP. Thanks to all the readers who sent me an email on this topic, and thanks to all the people who send in answers and guesses along the way. For those who got screwed on this one, sorry. To Jodi (the winner), congrats. Do me a favor, drop me a line after you collect your prize's - I'd love to hear if the "Exclusive Company" (tm) actually started giving away decent CD's yet, or if you still get the shit promo CD's that Lazer has laying around in boxes like the rest of the winners received. Chances are you'll keep 5-10 of those 153 cd's and the rest are turned into landfill waste. Here is the news article with the answer if you care to read it. |

GGrrrr... damn friggin Bears. Yes, I'm still a Packer fan. Yes, I still think Brett is one of the best QB's in the NFL. No, I don't think for a second that we should try to trade him away while we still can get something for him. He's the heart and soul of the team, the Packers win by Brett or loose by him... that's a fact. But damn, that pass was lame. Maybe Schroeder was out of position or gave up, maybe Brett blew it. And then the friggin Bears win, and then the Vikings win on Monday night.. man, what a shit week. Don't even get me started on the Badgers ... shesh. |

Ok, now the Packers vs Bears game on Dec 9th is REALLY gonna mean something! With the Pack beating the Bears on Sunday, their 2nd game on the 9th could very well decide which team is the NFC Central Champs.. this is what a Packer Bear game should be. The usual rilvary, plus payback for 1 team loosing at home earlier in the season, and having the title on the line.. one game, all the marbles and bragging rights for the next year. No way the Pack will let the Bears come on to their field and win, and there's no way the Bears are going to let the Pack win both games and ruin their season. We're talking Thunderdome here gang - 2 teams enter, 1 team leaves (victorious). Gonna be a great game! Damn, I gotta find tickets for that ... Oh ya.. and.. Da Bears still suck! *grin* |

And the Packers keep on kicking ass. The Vikings keep on sucking.. I want to know where those people are that were predicting the NFC Central was going to be 1. Vikings, 2. Bucc's, 3. Lions, 4. Packers, 5. Bears. Probably hanging out with the people who wanted to trade Brett off while he's still got something left.... haha.. idiots. Got a friendly email that read "Dude, its only week 3 and the Packers have played 3 cream puffs. Let's see where the Packers finish before you anoint them the Central Division champs ok? - Mark"
Well, lets take a look at this, shall we?
Nope - Not much here that'd make me second guess my opinion. Sure, they can start to loose, they could suffer some injuries that'd ruin their season. But it sure feels good to be sitting in the drivers seat, and I'm gonna savor it as long as we're winning. I suffered thru the dark days of the 70's and 80's damnit, I'm gonna enjoy each and every year the Brett is leading the Pack. |

Are you ready for some football?!?! WooHoo!! Got tickets to the Packer game tonight, sure as hell hope the traffic and parking isn't going to be as bad as some of the doom and gloomers are predicting. But what the hell, I'm willing to brave it anyway to be in Greenbay watching my favorite sports team with some of my best friends. But wait, some people ask "Hey Rich - aren't you nervous about the possiblity of another terrorist attack? Monday night football, with America's team playing... what a target. Hell they hit our military, our finanancial, and tried to hit our government - hitting our past time isn't too far fetched." Nope, not just no but HELL NO. I'm not going to let something like that keep me home. It's not just that it's the Packers playing, but to give in to fear is to let them bastards win. I didn't spend 4 years serving in the Marine Corps to now cower at home in fear. You know, my parents took an air flight the other day, which in itself was suprising because my mother HATES to fly (I can't overstate that fact). With the hijackings I know she was shitting marbles getting on that plane - yet they flew anyway. I think everyone should make a point of getting on with life - buy some furniture, some stock, go out to diner and a movie with your significant other, or take a vacation.. the only way things will get back to normal is if WE get back to normal. My wife and I were planning on buying a car next spring, but damn .. it's looking real good to buy now. Interest rates are lower than ever, and the car dealers are bending over backwards for your business. Gotta make hay while the sunshines, right? The whole terrorist thing has me (like many others) thinking about life & death .. the regrets you'd have. If something were to happen tonight - though it's more likely I'll die in a car crash on the way there than to a terrorist act - I'd have some regrets. I should of hugged my kids more often, told them again how proud I am of them and how deeply I love them - I never knew how much you could love another person until my kids were born. I should of held my wife for a little longer today, and thanked her for being with me for the last 14 years. She already knows how much I love her - but I still should of said it more often. I should of called my sisters & parents more often, just to say hi and that I love them. I should of hugged my dad - I don't know the last time I did that - hugged him and thanked him for being there all the times I needed him most. I should of written out my death wishes.. They are pretty simple actually, I want to be cremated and I want them to play "It's a wonderfull world" by Louis Armstrong at the wake, I've always loved that song. I'd always wanted a trumpeteer to play Taps at my funeral too, that's such a tear jerker (hey - it's my funeral, so sue me if I'd like to have a person or 2 shed a tear). I should of made a will.. how stupid is that, married for 14 years, got a house and everything and I still don't have a will.. I shouldn't need it, my wife gets everything - she deserves it all and more.. but the legal system would drag her thru the ringer for a year without a will in place. Of course, unlike the poor souls who's lives were cut short in the events of 9/11, I still have time to correct these regrets. I can do the things that I know I should do, show those people I love that I do. Think about the things that you might regret upon your death, and see to them while time is on your side. |

First off, let me say that I'm just as stunned, horrified, and friggin pissed off about the events of last week as everyone else. For those companies who are using the terrorist activity as a sales gimic - shame on you. No, not shame on you - FUCK YOU. I'm speaking about companies like Best Ford who advertises on Lazer. "For every Ford sold we'll donate $100 to the Red Cross". Listen here you profitterring scum bastards. If you really gave a shit about the Red Cross or the terrorist victims and their families you'd pony up $20k, or do a employee contribution match, then donate the proceeds to the funds and shut the fuck up about it. How dare you use peoples emotions of this time to boost your sales. Advertise how good your cars are, how cheap your price is, how friendly you are - thats fine. But this donate gimic? I hope you bastards go out of business. The same goes to all profiteering, price gouging compaines. Business as usual? Fine. Using this to your advantage? Fuck you. And if you have an email address that I can get my hands on, I'll tell you personally, large and bold FUCK YOU - I will NEVER go to your business - guarentee. To the soccer mom and her kids I saw standing on the street corner last night. Look - your probably legit, trying to teach your kids how to get involved. But there is no way in hell I'm going to toss a $20 into a can that some lady is holding on the street corner in the middle of the Waukesha countryside, just because she has a homemade sign that says "Donate to the disaster relief". I donate thru my bank, thru my church, or directly to the organizations that I wish to give money to... I don't toss money into coffee cans ( though I make exception for bell ringing Red Cross and VFW people). If you want to teach your kids how they can contribute there are THOUSANDS of charities that need your time and money. Take your kid to work at a food pantry, give blood, serve food to the homeless, help out at your church - that'll be a good place to start. To Bin Laden & his gang of thugs... that's the best you got? Ya, you kicked us in the nuts.. you dropped us to a knee - but this fight ain't over, not by a long shot. To paraphrase Marcelles Wallas (Pulp Fiction) "We're gonna call a bunch of hard pipe laying special forces to go to work on you with a pair of piers and a blow torch. You hear me talking hill billy boy? We're gonna get medival on your ass." |

Sorry, no rant - I've got nothing to bitch about... no shit., suprising hey? Oh sure, works hectic as hell but I'm pretty sure none of you give a crap about my work problems. So why's life so good? Think about it.. the weather is great, my lawn is growing again, and we can watch the Packers on TV! Ok, life would of been better if ** I ** had won the damn lottery... but all in all, life's good. |

Damn - my lawn is looking like absolute crap. Why is it weeds grow just fine in this hot and dry weather, but your lawn goes dormant? *sigh* Of course, once the rain's start this fall the grass will grow a bit, and the weeds will grow.. well, like weeds. I should of went with my original plan, astroturf the entire yard.. maintenance free, always looks good.. More mail pours in complaining about the crap CD's that past winners have gotten.. not one person has wrote to say they were happy with them. Am I wrong in thinking the CD prize package would be around 100% better if you could pick out even just 10 or so CD's from the shelves? What the Exclusive company is doing is similar to what it would be like if you won a prize in McDonald's Monopoly game, but they didn't give you food like a BigMac or fries.. they just let you eat the scrapings off the grill, or the grit they strain from the fryers.. maybe drink the soda from the drip tray. |

Ahh.. where to begin, where to begin.. Well, I'm not sure if I should be offended or not. Been getting sporatic emails lately basically saying "Whats up with the lack of new content?", though there are some that are a bit more .. to the point than that. PK put it so elloquently when he/she/it said "I hate to say tell you this, but your web site is starting to suck. It hasn't been updated for 2 weeks now.". I'd like to respond by saying "Oh ya! Well you suck too!" - but you know, I can't.. I really ain't done much on the site in weeks. Of course, the guy's camping trip, and the 10 day family vacation in California, and 6 days in LA for work, all over the last 6 weeks has been keeping me occupied... shit, I could rattle off all of the lame ass excuses why I've not been updating, but in the end - I guess I've mainly been lazy. And then there is the issue of people wanting me to post links to their websites. Look, if you have a cool website, something that you think is worthy of being labled a "Website worth visting" feel free to send it to me. If your looking for me to advertise your site here, it ain't gonna happen unless there's a little quid pro quo, some greenbacks, grease the palm, ya get what I mean? I'm giving Lazer free space, 'cause.. shit, I'm not sure why I ever started. But, I get a free link from them after the infamous "You bastards! You stole my website!" incident, so I guess we're all square with the Lazer link issue. You want me to promote your company here on my site? Drop me an email, we'll see what we can work out. And, now on to my real rant.. this one is aimed at Lazer. Man, I gotta say the whole CD prize issue is bullshit.. least from my standpoint. Come on guys, you offer a stack of CD's from the latest advertiser (Exclusive Company, etc.) .. and then give the prize winners a pile of crap?? As one recent YCW winner wrote me ... "There is not one single Metallica, Poison, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Guns N'Roses, etc., not one that I recognized. The other thing was that half the CDs were opened, used, the cases broken or they had no cases at all. About 25% were demos that state they are the property of the record company and must be surrendered upon demand". Come on, for christ's sake. What's a stack of crap CD's really worth? The *LEAST* you (Lazer contest people) could do is negotiate a deal where the first 10 CD's in the prize list are ones the winner can pick out at the store, and the rest being the toss off, shit CD's you normally pawn off on the winner. Since I decided to let go with this "Ya! You win a pile of crap CD's!" rant I've heard from a number of previous winners. Each of these received their CD's from the *Exclusive Company*, and each was ... less than thrilled with their selection. It seems that years ago winners were allowed to pick their CD's, even if they wouldn't get all the ones they wanted. Now, they just drop a pile of crap CD's in a box and give it to you. To the defense of Lazer, each of the unhappy CD winners put the blame on the Exclusive company, and said that Lazer tried their best to make it right. SOoo.. lets see what we have here. The *Exclusive Company* gets their named spamed on the #1 morning show in Milwaukee every morning. They get ** FREE ** webspace here from me, hell I'd even give 'em a free link if they had a damn website. There's 5 friggin stores (you know, like Jackpot Girl says "From the 5 Milwaukee area Exclusive Companies"). A typical CD must cost them what, $5 dollars? Hell, lets go with $10 just to be generous. That's a lousy $2 per day in the prize package if they let the winner pick the CD's instead of just dumping handfull's of crap on them. Crap, even if they gave you a certificate that lets you pick out a couple of them, it'd be a hell of an improvement. As one person put it 'I honestly can say that out of the [..] CD's I received, I have listened to AT MOST 5. The rest are still sitting in the box they came in (Exclusive Co. was nice enough to label the box "Loser 103")' . |

Well, this isn't really a rant .. it's more of a "what the hell is the holdup, you lazy ass!" - directed at me. I've received several emails from people commenting on the lack of updates, and missing words of wisdom and wit from yours truely. I could give a ton of reasons why, but hey ... it all boils down to me being too lazy to find the time to update. I'll do my best to try to get focused often enough to update the content atleast weekly. Just got back from a weekend camping trip with the guys .. we had some wild weather up at Buckhorn State Park (near Necedea, WI). Decent park, we had a good time. I gotta tell ya, I seen enough of those "Don't buy gas from Exxon/Mobil so they'll lower their prices" emails to last me a lifetime. So, I figured I'd do some diggin and come up with the facts behind the situation (as I normally do with all urban legends). And what I found was interesting as all hell.
A quick check on Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) shows that for the fiscal year ended
12/31/00, revenues rose 25% to $232.75 billion. Net income (not gross) rose to
$15.99 billion, up from $7.87 billion the year before.
So when the news media tells you that they don't know the reason for the price increase, and that the gas companies aren't gouging us.. you'll know better. Profits doubled and tripled from the previous year isn't gouging? We're being screwed gang - not by Exxon, but by all petrolium companines - and theres not a damn thing we can do about it. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it? |

Ok.. that's a lie.. it's not a rant. Nothing to piss an moan about going on in my life. Ok sure, I could bitch about being sick but being as we're just getting out of winter in Wisconsin I seriously doubt anyone would give a rats ass about my cold. Anyway, where I started here with another of my rambling writings was about the hints and info I give out here. A couple people brought up the issue of me posting the anwers after people send them to me, but before the answer is *officially* known .. will this be a prob for the B-Boys? Hell, I don't know.. I seriously doubt it, since as I understand it they get paid by their sponsers for the contest, whether it's 1 week or 30 .. the more often the contest is won the more money they make. Of course, I could be all wrong and they could be pissed as hell at me for posting the answers. Since I've never gotten a letter from B&B, or Eric, or anyone from lazer (well, couple years ago I got a email from someone on the marketing team about my misspelling of a sponsers name..) I'll take the liberty of assuming they really don't care that I post the info that I do. For reference, I only post the hints, clues and answers people send me if they tell me it's ok to share the info. I know some people email with their clues because they want to prove they knew it before the rest, even if they don't win. I'm not such an ass that I'll pass on someones hard work without their ok. I might use it to try and win the prize package for myself.. but I won't share with out permission. What - that's a problem? I never said I wasn't greedy ... if you send me the answer, I reserve the right to use it too. *grin* Not to worry though, if I do win using someone else's work I'd be more than willing to share the prize package with them. |

Shit damn .. I'm not sure if I should be upset, flattered or embarrassed. Some just have no appreciation for my lame, half witted, smart ass comments about peoples wrong answers - and it's usually the person who made the wrong answer that sends me a nasty gram. Ok, sure.. they're not always nasty, some are polite in telling me to go take an aerial sexual encounter at a rapidly traversing pastry... So, what's a guy to do.. ease off on the smartassed comments? unleash the fires of hell on the people who get offended with my comments? Naa.. screw it - I'll just keep doing what I do. Been doing it for 4+ years, and it's only been the recent popularity of my YCW site that has caused the furor... I guess I'll take the unhappy emails as a compliment, it means people are visiting the site. So hey, it's all in fun.. if I cross the line and my comments are mean spirited or hurtful, then hell ya, feel free to flame me (who knows, I might just put YOUR rant here next time). Other than that, if you guess wrong I reserve the right to toss some harrassment your way here. Just take it as my way of complimenting ya on the try, since I can never get thru on the damn phone line to give the B-Boys my own sorry, lame assed guess. Damn.. the thought of the harrassing email I'd get if I finally got on the air and guessed wrong... (shudder).. think I'll stop trying until #5 is answered and we're on to a new contest. *grin* |

Seems that B&B busted some chops around at the YCW corporate headquarters, the *Official YCW* site has been updated to acknowledge the work I did. Now, they did raise the question about *me* stealing the info from them.. all I can say is that the photographer may not of created the Moon, but he owns the right to the photo he took of it, and I'm sure that Webster didn't think up all the words in the dictionary, but they hold the rights to their compilation of them. (this is pretty funny stuff, yes? Took me most of 1 min to come up with these examples.. so sue me if they crappy ones) However, I do acknowledge B&B for the work they did putting together the You can't win contest, and gathering up all the tough questions. I'd also like to give 'em a special thanks for the virutal reach around. *grin* (inside joke) |

Proper Internet ettiquette is to ask permission from someone before you blatently ripoff their website. Check out the Official You can't win website at Lazer 103 and tell me they didn't just grab the info from my webpage. Amazing how their information goes back only as far as mine does.. isn't it? While it is flattering that they finally recognize the work I've been doing for the last 4 years - damn.. that's just friggin rude. The least they could do is give me credit for all collecting the information they used.. The name is Rich Werning - feel free to use that on the Lazer site too, won't you? |
